There is little difference in how they look. Most have no idea of which model it is. Apple Watch, yes, series 7 or 8. not!
After wearing the Ultra for over a year, I am ready for a change. The S10 Ti got me! It seems so thin and lite!I like the flat screen and raised ridges of the Ultra, but it's a bit too thick and heavy for me, so I would love to have a thinner, lighter Ultra, and I would prefer that over the S10.
At least one poster has claimed that the S10 is easier to read than S7/8/9. If that's true, then that's a good reason to upgrade. I do agree the looks aren't that different. You would have to place an S10 side by side with an S7/8/9 to notice any difference. There isn't a great deal of difference aesthetically, its a millimetre in each direction and a slimmer case. I think this is another topic where it is being over-thought to justify either buying or not.
The screen is certainly better than the Series 5 I came from. The Watch has gotten slowly better as the years have passed but it's also perfectly fine not to want to upgrade to the Series 10 if that person is happy with their current watch. At least one poster has claimed that the S10 is easier to read than S7/8/9. I typically upgrade my watch every other year but I’m getting tired of buying the same watch over and over. I was hoping for a bigger design change for the series 10 but we got what we got. After owning the series 3,4,6 and 7 I want something new. I returned my 10 and have the black ultra right now and I don’t love how thick it is but at least it looks different than my series 7. I would love to see a thinner ultra or a new design for the 11 next year but at this point I feel like Apple is playing it safe and staying with the same design. The screen is certainly better than the Series 5 I came from. I go around 4 to 5 years between upgrading mine. Not really sure what you were expecting the watch to bring? It has a design that sets itself apart from all other smartwatches on the market and has a design language that is synonymous with Apple. A lot of products out there carry their styling through the decades with modern tweaks here and there. We wouldn't expect a Porsche 911 to abandon the sloped rear in favour of a square design, because its part of the brand identity. I think Apple will keep the rectangular, curved sided watch for a few more years yet with a continuous introduction of improvements each year.I typically upgrade my watch every other year but I’m getting tired of buying the same watch over and over. The S10 Slate Ti is my favorite of every AW I’ve owned, including the AWU 2 (though the black one looks sharp). After wearing the Ultra for over a year, I am ready for a change. The S10 Ti got me! It seems so thin and lite!
I was expecting them to take more of a small ultra approach with 10. Maybe a flat display like the ultra and add the action button. Really I would have been ok with something like these mockups where the screen got bigger and the bezels got smaller so it would be more of an all screen watch.I go around 4 to 5 years between upgrading mine. I was surprised a smaller Ultra didn’t come out for those that want it, but personally glad that design didn’t replace the standard Apple Watch aesthetic. I don’t like the design of the Ultra and that would have put an end to my Apple Watch journey if they had. I think Apple need to put more effort into faces as it’s never lived up to the potential they promised back in 2015, more choice I would like to see.I was expecting them to take more of a small ultra approach with 10. Maybe my expectations are too high but after 3 years of the same design I expected a little better especially with bezels getting smaller on the 15pro and 16pro.
I tried the S10 for a couple days. Liked the thinner profile but it wasn’t as dramatic as I expected it to be. Still, any reduction is welcome and it did help the watch sit closer to my wrist. Didn’t like the squarer aspect ratio and size increase. It made it feel less like a watch and more of a computer strapped to my wrist. Some bands felt a bit too narrow with the new case shape. The larger area covered by the glass and the bigger bezels also made some watch dials feel too small relative to the case size (lots of black area around it).
Overall, I preferred the S7-9 design, despite the thinner profile of the S10. Ended up returning the S10 and picking up a warranty replacement S9 on eBay for a good price. Will wait and see how this things evolve over the next 1-2 years.
