Bite the bullet and purchasing a series 3.

Should I buy the LTE aluminum version or regular series 3 with Apple care?

Trying to be in a budget, but have the funds to buy SS version.

Any suggestions/opinions....don't want to regret it.

ZINGER - Won't be activating LTE.
If you get the SS version, you wont really need Apple Care. Ive had my Series 0 SS apple watch since launch, and I can throw this thing on tile and it won't break. Once I upgrade, I'm sticking to only the SS versions, and not investing into Apple Care for it. The SS will outlive your Apple Care.

The only downside to the stainless mode is if the sapphire display is dropped, it can shatter. Otherwise I agree the display is very durable. The stainless casing scratches easily, but that’s expected with 316L stainless.

How long do you have to buy applecare after the purchase of the watch?

60 or 90 days?

Thx
60 days but I believe it’s a time stamped policy. If you bought it at noon the at 1201 you would not be eligible

Went to Sams Club today and snarfed up the Series 3 Alum GPS only version in 42mm.. Saved like $3 smack-a-roos buying it from Sams Club but they do have a 90 day return window so that was my main reason for buying it there as opposed to Apple.

Added Apple Care + after I got home and got it all set up. Been a while since I last used AW and that was a S2 right after it came out but I was back rockin' away after about 10 minutes of not remembering how to do things.

Ordred a screen protector from Amazon so that will be here on Saturday.

I am still going to keep my Fenix 5 but I'll use the AW for swimming, running and when playing racquetball. I don't really plan on using either for cycling as I have a dedicated cycling computer for that.

Anyways, happy to be a Watch haz'er again...

A 90 Day return policy is phenomenal. It Gives you plenty of time determine if you like the watch and you don’t experience any defects in the midst of it.

Anybody ever bought aw from Costco? What's their warranty policy? Or is Apple care still a neccessity?

It's probably similar to Sams Club. At Sam's the LTE version falls under their cellular return policy which is 14 days but the GPS only version falls under the standard return. You should be able to call Costco customer service and ask.

I got Apple Care + as soon as I got home and the Watch paired and setup. You just log into your Apple Support Support site, where it lists all your Apple Devices, and select Apple Care + for the Watch. It will then send you a text message with a link to run a diagnostics test. Once the test is done the Apple site refreshes and you are able to buy the plan.

Thanks man. Yes I'll just purchase the ac+
I remember Costco used to have the best replacement warranty but for electronics only.
Uncle had a tv that cracked because of "in door soccer game" and was able to return in for new version no question asked.

If you aren't activating LTE as per your post's last line, there is not really any point on getting the LTE aluminum version... so, um, it's a bit of a silly question in that regard... definitely go for Regular Apple Watch Series 3 with AppleCare+.

Never buy a product without AppleCare/AppleCare+ if it's available... it is worth your additional investment by many orders of magnitude :).

Cheers

In the very rare occasions when I had to pay for Out-of-warranty repairs of my Apple products, they were covered by my credit card. The AppleCare premium I have saved over so many years is already worth several new Apple gadgets.

AppleCare, just like any extended warranty, is an insurance product. Insurance is only recommended for the risks that may cause you a large part of your savings, or multiples of your monthly income, e.g. serious illness, hospitalisation, home accidents, car accidents, etc. For a few hundred US$ OW repairs, it just isn’t worth it.

@haruhiko I guess what makes me disagree is when I had a repair needed for my 2007 MacBook Pro many years ago with the display. The repair was $1980, and I did not have AppleCare (this was out of warranty). Apple, at the time, which was in around 2010 I believe, was still able to take many liberties when it came to discounting repair fees (they do not take the same liberties in these days, not even close), and they actually waived the entire repair fee for me when I said I may as well get a new computer instead. That was an absolutely fantastic, generous move of customer service for which I was tremendously grateful. Since then, as I knew that I was unlikely to ever get so lucky again should I need a repair, I have always purchased AppleCare/AppleCare+ if available on all of my new Apple Product purchases. And more than a handful of times it has absolutely come in worth the additional cost of purchase. Particularly worth it are AppleCare+ products, and I have dropped iPhones that have smashed and once dropped my iPhone 6s Plus in my lake out the side of my boat (fortunately in shallow water) and was able to get it replaced for $50 which the swap fee was at the time for such incidents. What a deal - versus the normal new device cost of $700-$900 or so.

Anyway, to each their own, I just personally love AppleCare and will always purchase it with my products from Apple. I just don't like taking the risk of an OOW repair fee, as some of them - particularly on a MacBook Pro or iMac - can be significantly expensive.

Cheers :)
