Yeah I have a manual Nikon 50mm f1.2 I’ve used on Panasonic GH crop sensor cameras for more than a decade. I have a 28mm as well but I think it’s f2.0 if I remember correctly.
Nice setup

What do you think of more budget friendly brands?
I want to get a 30 or 35 mm lens I don't want to pay up for another Sony (unless I find a good deal on the used market)

You know, the nice thing about these old Nikons is that they’re essentially worthless to people who don’t know what they are. I have some of my favorite footage with them, though you have to hold the camera sooo steady. One of my favorite shots was with the 28mm handheld. It’s in my book as well. I only have one knockoff, it’s the sigma I think 14-18mm. It’s very plasticky, and not at all as nice as the old metal Nikons. At some point I’d like either like an S1 or a GH6 or whatever it is now with in body stabilization. Focus would still be all on me, but it would make handheld a lot easier. Here it is, a still from a handheld interview I did. 28mm F2, Panasonic Gh1, 1080P24. I really like the Bokeh in this video.

Ha ha, oops, how embarrassing! It’s actually a 20mmF2.8. I got the numbers flipped. Tells you it’s been a while since I’ve been out shooting.

I used a GH2 for a good decade and upgraded to a Sigma fp since I pretty much do only video. What a little gem of a camera.

I went from a hacked GH1 to a GH4. The in body stabilization came with the GH5, man was I pissed about that! I’m not sure what they’re up to now, but at some point I’ll go back in the field and need a new rig. I like the idea of the full-frame models, but it seems people really like the Sonys for video.

I think they’re at the GH6, but Panasonic also makes the S line of full-frame cameras so they kind of overlap. I stopped paying attention after I bought the Sigma.

Folk seem to like the Sony for video because of its low-light capabilities and autofocus. My short feature was shot on a Sony mirroless for the most part (and a blackmagic 4K) and I wasn’t super happy with it. To each their own I suppose.

Panasonic would still be my go-to for a combination of photo and video. Best all-rounders in my opinion.

Yeah, I really don’t have any major complaints about the Panasonic. I had a pretty good workflow going, and I like using my vintage lenses. Why didn’t you like the BM/Sony combo? Was it ease of use? Image quality? At the end of the day, my stuff is run n gun documentary and for specialized audiences so it doesn’t have to be 8K cinema ready. I’m still using an ancient SoundDevices 2-track audio recorder with an actually ancient Neumann shotgun from the 80s, so I don’t need to follow the trends.

I bought the Apple Watch 3 last summer. The 38mm.
Because I had to, with my old iPhones (6s and 7+). This is my first Apple Watch, and I am very happy with it.

What prompted me to buy one, you might wonder?
The Health app came to the iPad with iPadOS 17. And I love it.

I still have an old Garmin fenix 3, which is large and bulky. But I refuse to have an account online, just to be able to track my day, and exercises. It pisses me off that I have to l have internet connection to be able to see any info

The watch syncs with my 6s, and using wi-fi, the iPad syncs to the iphone Health App 🥰

It might be a slow watch. I wouldn't know. Because I am not interested in all the apps. I even tried to delete most of them.

It was the super high ISO and incredible autofocus. It made some of the team lazy. Instead of lighting a scene properly, they would crank the ISO to like 16,000+ and it would look alright on the monitor, but then in the edit suite we didn’t have as much flexibility. And while people absolutely love the super fast autofocus, I find it distracting, and in some cases it ruined a shot because it would switch focus on the wrong thing.

I tend to shoot manual or grab a critical focus and have a long depth of field for run and gun, and used to work with lots of lights, so the Sony’s advantages are negatives for me.

An old Neumann shotgun is likely still really good today. That’s what I like about good mic’s, they can last.

Wait, can the Apple Watch pair with an iPad? Can you skip the iPhone? That could solve my problem.

Still using my 3. It has been replaced once under warranty for the screen crack issue. It is an essential daily device for me. I turn off, and have always had turned off, all the notifications (email, WhatsApp SMS etc). From the get go I though the device was too small for these to be useful. However, I use health app and workoutdoors daily. Run, swim, gym, Pilates tracking etc. I’m lost without it now.

I wouldn’t buy a series 3 now, and wouldn’t have bought one as a replacement for several years. Right now I’m looking at getting a 9, just need to get the courage to pull the trigger. Why the upgrade? Newer and better, more accurate sensors, some added features/sensors, some apps will not sync to series 3 (specifically training peaks).

I do not know. And I do not wish to reset my watch, just to see if it will work.

The pairing process installed the Fitness App on my iPhone 6s.
To sync the iPad, I have to have both the iPhone and the iPad on wi-fi. And access the information through the Health App.

you would need the Watch app on the iPad and from what I know its only a iPhone app.

So in the end I found a brand new stainless steel Apple Watch Series 7 from an authorized reseller for $198 CDN. It was too good to pass up, so I bought it on Monday and it arrived today. It’s quite nice and running Watch OS 8.3. It paired up with my iPhone and I couldn’t be happier.

I think I lucked out with this baby.

Dammit

Before i recently got my SE2, I was looking for the S7 in blue - blue is my favorite color and they did it well on the S7 - but at 400-450 bucks (Canada) , I thought it would be best to get a more recent model (got the the SE2 at 280 canadian)

Yeah, I’d been following that series 7 on Sportchek since Boxing Day when it first went down to $550. Last week it was slashed to $198 but out of stock. I had left the browser window open and a few days later it showed as in stock.

I feel like I won the lottery.
