So let me preface this by saying I owned a series 3 42mm with cellular, then bought a 40mm series 4 with cellular.

I can say hands down that the 3 42mm had a better battery life on 4G than the 4 40mm, so my question is does the 44mm 4 have a better battery again than the series 3 or is it pretty much the same?

Pondering whether to move up to the 44mm size for the battery gains.

I had a 42mm Cellular and now have a 44mm Cellular and I can say that not only did I get better battery life with the 42mm but it also charged much faster.

For me, I start my day about 6:30am and end it about 10:15pm. When I take my S4 44mm watch off before I go to bed, it has an average of about 56% battery left.
But I don't really have things running in the background on it besides my workout for an hour or so.

So, Apple made the battery smaller on the Gen4 in order to increase the size of the haptic engine. Since the CPU is more efficient, the run time is still pretty good (comparatively). But from a cellular runtime perspective its not a surprise that the 42mm Gen3 would last longer as it has the biggest battery.

The smaller the battery (Gen3 38mm; Gen4 40mm) the faster it will charge. The larger the battery (Gen3 42mm) the longer it will take to charge.

Apple Watch Series 3 (42mm): 1.34 watt-hours -- Largest
Apple Watch Series 4 (44mm): 1.12 watt-hours
Apple Watch Series 3 (38mm): 1.07 watt-hours
Apple Watch Series 4 (40mm): 0.86 watt-hours -- Smallest

I think my battery life on my 44 is the same as my 42...but my 42 charged quicker.

I wore my 44 cellular most of the day the other day, worked out while streaming music through bluetooth on LTE, and left the house on LTE/WiFi without phone and at the end of the day it was only down to 75%. The battery life on these things is impressive.
