I’m thinking of getting a series 3 watch. Do you think it’s going to be outdated soon? Is it worth it?

Thanks

Technically, it already is outdated. The reality is, it depends what you’re using the watch for, The dual core processor is plenty powerful, but the 64 bit architecture in the Series 4 Apple Watch is the difference for longer support and app development.

The Series 3 was a huge step up in performance. I recently sold my Series 4 and went back to the Series 3 because I didn’t care about having the bigger text or the heart rate monitoring. The Series 3 is 95% as fast as the Series 4 and battery life is about the same. Even after using a Series 4 for 7 months my Series 3 doesn’t feel any different.

In fact, at this point with the Series 5 coming this fall, I’d recommend any first time Apple Watch buyers get a used Series 3 and buy the Series 5 when it comes out.

The real risk is that Apple makes future features 64-bit only. The Series 3 is the last of the 32-bit watches. But as of now, that’s not an issue.

At this point, I’d say it is a bit outdated. Waiting for watch series 5 is a better choice, and you have more features with longer watchOS support. ECG if supported, can also become handy as well.

I couldn't go back to the smaller screen after having my S4 *but* the S3 was a great watch. The S3 isn't that old.

I own a series 3 and a series 0. Even the S0 does everything I need it to do, just battery life ain't that great ..

The S3 is very responsive and I like having GPS plus a certain degree of waterproofing

In 4 months or so we will see the S5 along with price drops of the previous generations

Wait if you can, if not, the S3 is a great watch if the price is right

The price differential between a S4 and S3 is approx. $160 in my neck of the woods.
I'm not sure the S4 is worth that much more.

It's tempting to pull the trigger on discounted sales on the S3...knowing it may go down even further if, and when the S5 is launched in September.

I got a refurbished series 3 space black stainless steel for $230 approximately off of amazon. Refurb series 4 is nowhere near that price even if they are aluminum.

At that price point series 3 seems way more attractive.

The only issue I have with Amazon ‘Apple refurbished units’, they don’t always come from Apple where they are refurbished. That’s the thing with Apple, they _guarantee_ all their units are thoroughly/stringently tested, and not hacked with third-party parts that other sites might sell them for cheaper and labeled as ‘Refurbished’. You take a gamble when you purchase off Amazon, or any third-party site for that matter when it comes to refurbished units.
