Hard to believe but it's true folks! Reason enough for me to upgrade. Oh and of course...Ceramic backs!

UPDATE: I swear I didn't see it before but they now changed it to "ION-X" ams "Sapphire back"...sorry folks.

I'm really wondering about that. Reading through the "hype", it does state that the back "ECG Ring" is in sapphire, but the FRONT, (the most exposed part) the actual crystal that covers the face is still the Ion-X glass. Or, that's what I see in the presentation blurbs on Apple

Just checked it on the Apple Store site an it does say "Sapphire"!

It has a sapphire glass back but an Ion X front screen. I checked because my dream is an aluminum case for the reduced weight, with a sapphire screen for the scratch protection.

I think you misunderstood. They were just talking about the back which is ceramic and sapphire on all Series 4 models (on the Series 3 the GPS only was composite and the LTE model was ceramic). The front glass is still "Ion-X" glass on aluminum models.

It was always the sams on the store

If only I captured the screen to prove it. That was the specific thing I was checking for and was surprised to see "Sapphire" on the description with no mention of Ion-X...at least on the Canadian site.

Oh well...back to reality.

Yeah, the Sapphire crystal is why I bit for the Stainless version, but this round it's simply too much for just that. Still trying to decide how much of the "new" watch will come through on the WatchOS5, before I give up my Series 3 SBSS.

You got me stoked for a minute. No sapphire front glass for aluminum.
[doublepost=1536785304][/doublepost]Ugh! Damn cellular version is unavoidable for SS models. Geez $749 for SS.

I think a lot of people are confused by this, but it is indeed true that the aluminum uses the ion-X glass, similar to the iPhone displays, as the stainless will routine the Sapphire display.

I think Apple has now segregated the SS to a much higher bracket similar to the ceramic but much more affordable by giving it a sapphire/cellular exclusivity.

On a positive note, the aluminum non/cellular has now gained a ceramic back. I paid extra for the Series 3 Nike cellular last year just to get the ceramic back. Never used the cellular feature one bit because I always carry my phone with me.
