Just got my Space grey 4 and I also
Notice the crown sticks out a bit more than series 3. I think it’s normal.

It’s only noticeable when the light hits at an angle. The crown seems very firm and the feedback is awesome.

Same model here. Yours look just fine. Don't take it in.

Your watch's crown looks parallel, if you look at my photos it's really crooked in one of them. I'm not too concerned about the crown gap now but rather the fact that's is crooked.

Definitely crooked. That picture is blatantly obvious it does not look centered at all. That alone warrants a return in my opinion.

Got my SBSS AW4. Mine also has a gap but the crown is definitely parallel to the body. From the photo, I also thought it was an optical illusion due to the shadow, but if not, take it in

My SBSS also has a gap. A pretty damn prominent one at that. Not really worried about it. we are talking milimeter difference here. Id personally be more peeved if i had too little of a gap and didnt get that nice satisfying click when the crown was pressed. But again, if yours is crooked, take it back.

Here is my SBSS. It has a gap as well. Maybe it’s the SS models? It doesn’t bother me. The crown functions with no problems

Definitely seems to be more prominent in the SS models. Especially the Space Black

I can confirm my space black 44 mm is perfect. And when I first heard of this ‘gap’ concern, I checked it immediately and mine is flush. Other members have indicated that some of the older generation Apple Watches also had the ‘gap’, but they didn’t even notice it until these thread started to arise, which I don’t think it’s that major of an issue, even though I’m sure Apple would never intend their watches to be manufactured this way. Its Just a matter if somebody notices it and how they decide to handle the situation.

Have you considered the fact that the inside edge of the crown is flat and the side of the watch it is next to is slightly curved? This may cause it to appear to have a gap.

Update: I got a replacement and it still has a gap which seems normal at this point but on the bright side at least the crown is parallel now lol.

I mentioned this in another thread as well, but other members were also examining their Series 3 and many of them have spoken that they also noticed the gap, but never would have noticed if it wasn’t for someone mentioning it. Point is, I’m sure there is some slight variation with the display being uneven for some models, but as long as it doesn’t pose a risk to the water resistance, it’s likely a non-issue for the most part. For those who don’t frequent tech forums, will likely never even think to look at the display like others have.

Help me understand how display is affecting the gap in distance with the crown and body? Or did you mean there is some slight variation just like with the display being uneven with some models?

AND

Apple definitely wanted this gap, Bro. Now I can easily clean the crown when it starts to get stuck? Or maybe I'll never have that issue because the gap is so massive everything just falls out of it haha :D

This is going to sound crazy but I was able to push the crown in a little bit. It looks alot better.

I sat the watch crown side down on a hardwood table, and pressed as hard as I could. It actually worked! haha. No damage to the crown, and the haptic engine still works great. I also laid down a microfiber cloth on the table before, just incase.

I also had the gap with my s4 nike space gray. I contacted apple care support about another problem (display "bleeding" or light issues on the left edge). The replacement watch that I just received no longer has any display issues and there is no gap showing either. See image of new watch.
