So now the Apple Watch comes with its band in a separate box, are we able to take them back to the Apple Store to swap them?
I already have the white sports band from my Series 2, and would like a different colour as well. In the past they’ve not let us swap, but has anyone tried with this release?
Thanks!

PS Apologies if this has been asked already today - couldn’t find it when I looked through briefly but there are a lot of threads as it’s new toy day!

Do they give you both S/M and M/L bands now? Previously they would only give you one of the to depending if you ordered a 38mm or 42mm.

So can you swap or what?

I wanna know this too.

Originally wanted Sport Loop but had to get Sport as Sport Loop is not available with stainless steel watches.
This combination was available at my local Apple store this morning even though it doesn’t show on Apple’s website. Only for silver SS though. They had no SB SS models.

I really hope so. I have a white that i just don't want, but would love a blue...

Honestly, I think will be dependent on the Apple Store. They might allow an exchange, but probably at the discretion of the store manager and if they have the available inventory/stock for the same band that you’re wanting to exchange in return. At minimum, you certainly could call your local Apple Store, request to speak to manager and ask.

It is not possible, the strap comes in a separate box to be easier for Apple to have such a wide configurations. Now they only have to grab two boxes and wrap together.

We decided to not open our new Series 4 watch bands in hopes we can swap.

Has anyone tried?

Unfortunately it appears you can’t - someone on Reddit has tried and was unsuccessful :(

I asked 2 Apple assistants if I could swap my white sports band with another colour / band. Both said no

Makes sense. If word were to travel of others exchanging bands at Apple stores, that would alter their inventory status so much and it would be complete chaos. I can only imagine that you would have upset customers if wanted a specific band, but not in stock because someone else exchange their band for another one.

Thought the bands are packaged separately they are not packaged in the regular retail box.

The only way the specialist could return it would be a return no receipt. That requires a manager override.

Nope. Been confirmed by many people attempting to swap. Makes sense to me - the watch and band are “one item” purchased from the store. Plus, I’m sure they are counting on people wanting different bands than the offered configurations, and as such, will buy those extra bands. It’s part of their business.

Exactly. It will help Apple with efficiencies/cost savings in packaging.
Savings won't be passed onto Apple customers nor was this aimed at providing users with more options.
It's all about Apple here.

Don't think these boxed watch bands are shrink-wrapped...but this somewhat makes trading watch bands with other users a bit more palatable/hygenic.

They let me do it but it was under special circumstances.

The first watch I bought I (luckily) opened in the car before driving home and it was just a bright white screen. Walked back into the store and they were out of my configuration with the sport loop so they let me keep the band and put the black sport band with the defunct watch.

In another thread I commented that if you ever want to sell your watch on one of the sites when the next model comes out, from my experience, you need to have an exact configuration as it came from Apple. What I did with my silver aluminum with sea shell sport loop is to just buy the cape cod sport loop and hang on to the original.
