Is that documented anywhere? I've seen numerous bloggers say it, but haven't seen anything straight from Apple.
If you look at the bands in the Apple Store it will say "built for series 3, works with series 4" or "Built for series 4, works with all other series"

any idea if the LTE version still has more memory or anything better than the gps only like the series 3 used to be?
16GB in both.

When they say the Series 3 sports band will 'work with' the Series 4 do you think there will be any gaps because the cases are different? A s3 sports band could still clip in and they could say 'work with' but it might not be 100% flush.

Another question, I apologize if this was addressed in the presentation, but I missed it.
I noticed there’s only one led for the heart rate monitor, I think they were calling it a second generation or something. How/why is the single led better, when other sports watches are using anything from 3 to 6? Anyone know?

You lost me. So the GPS only iWatch4, connected to my iPhone, it will do everything that a iWatch4 w/cellular can do? Text/walki-talki/receive and talk on my watch as long as it's connected via BT to my iPhone? and if there's wifi nearby the iWatch 4 w/gps only can also use that?

Yes... on the phone and I believe if you're connected via wifi too without your phone.

Yes.. same thing... just can't be unpaired from your phone and/or out of a known wifi network. And don't call it iWatch.. people hate that.. Apple watch or AW for short.

The way it's written, it sounds like they did try it and it didn't work.

my fault you are right
No worries. I was hammering sites with "hands-on" trying to look for photos of the SS black model and read their review earlier. It will be interesting to see how backwards compatible they actually are.

Where did you read this?

Per Apple:

Band Compatibility
You can match this band with any Apple Watch Series 4 case of the same size. It also works with all previous versions of Apple Watch, including Apple Watch Series 3. The 40mm band works with the 38mm case; the 44mm band works with the 42mm case.

They should fit. The measurements are measured from top to bottom, vertically, which means the width probably didn't' change.

What I want to know is if the shape did. Is it rounder? Is that confirmed?

That's not how I read it at all. Consider the actual quote...

Unfortunately, that feature wasn’t available for us to try out on the demo units here. Another thing I couldn’t do was swap out my old Apple Watch band into the new, differently sized Series 4 casing.

The writer has just said that he was not able to test the ECG. HE then goes on to say that he also was not able to test out swapping bands. Totally different thing than saying that the band swap did not work.

He then goes on to say...

All of these hardware changes mean there’s clearly a bigger display, but the Apple Watch Series 4 is actually thinner than the previous models, and it will still work with all existing bands. That’s good news if you’re upgrading from the original model from three years ago.

There Seems to be a lot of confusion, this is direct from Apple‘s website regarding the bands:

Heh, I don't work at Apple so I can't tell for sure, but [Speculation Alert] I'd say that A: there seems to be several LEDs actually in the center (looks like 4 green LEDs to me, may be IR LEDs packed in there as well which you would not be able to detect using human vision, or at least not without dismantling the device... :p) Further, the detectors have been moved to a circle around the LEDs, and there's also a lot more detectors now, whereas with previous watches there was only 2 detectors.

All this presumably to better and more completely capture light from the LEDs; this design actually makes a lot of sense IMO. No idea how well it works for people with really dark skin and/or tattoos though. I guess we'll see about that eventually.
