Same boat. Traded in my s3->s4 and got a decent trade in value. Was planning on trading in my s4>s5 but $100 is a slap in the face for a 1 year old device. Makes my decision much easier so keeping it for another year or two.

I can't believe that's all Apple is offering for the trade in. I wanted to see what they would be offering for the S4 Hermes watch since many have said Apple isn't offering much in this thread. They are also offering $110 for the series 4 Hermes Watch 44mm. I don't intend on upgrading anyway but that is a comical price.

Wow - that is really bad for a Hermes. I wonder if Apple watch trade in program is wrong. They are offering $110 for my S4 Stainless 44. Should be $250 like last year. Then I would bite and buy the S5

They only offered me $100 for my S3 SS. I didn't expect to get a huge amount and it is better than Apple' $70, but I think I'll see if my daughter want's it instead.

Just a warning for anyone selling their old watch on some well known auction website. Lock it down, don't delete it from your apple account when you post it. Follow all of the guidelines strictly on postage (shipping) and when the buyer says it's locked, then remove it from your account. You might even state on your sale it will be sent locked and not unlocked until received.

I sold my 3, followed all of the guidelines and when I saw online that the buyer had signed for the item I unlocked it. They even left positive feedback. A week or so later came the chargeback through their credit card company. Paypal removed the cash from my account and the three month investigation started. They upheld the buyers claim, but as I had followed all of the correct procedures I got my money back, but the buyer got it for free.

It would appear crime does pay, just make sure you are not the one paying.

Yeah, a $100 is weak. You’re better off selling locally if you can accrue more in cash value for the watch, or as you said, if you’re not really tempted by the Series 5, just keep it for another year.

Same deal as last year, though lower dollars. The trade-in increments for the premium watches over the standard Sport/Nike aluminum watches is very, very small compared to the difference in retail prices.

Unfortunately as a buyer I would never purchase a watch like that. How do I know you will unlock it? Especially if it wasn't listed in your ad as locked, I'd imagine most would send it back as not as described and then you'll have to pay return shipping. Probably not the best strategy.

I agree that there is a huge fraud problem with electronic sales online, but I don't think that's the answer. Either sell in person or hope some site comes up with some sort of usable escrow system to eliminate fraud.

That's awful. I wish that Apple would start an upgrade program like they do with the iPhone.

I have Apple Watch 3 series. I will either keep it since I have so many bands and plan to get the bigger version, or sell locally. I have a friend who usually buys my old devices. I will upgrade when I have a chance to go to an Apple Store, none in my city.

I tend to "demote" my previous watch. I will keep one in good shape, and wear the other one when working in the shop, in yard, etc. Looking forward to my 5. I skipped 4. Glad the straps will work!

I'll hold on to my Series 4, and get the Series 5, and just treat the Apple Watch how I treat my iPhone and upgrade yearly and "trade in". But I'll keep my Apple Watch 4 since it's paid off.

Lat year Verizon made me pay it off in six months unfortunately. They changed that this year.

So I got an offer from someone I know for series 4 44mm aluminum GPS only for $263. There are some scratches and scuffs on the screen from daily use, but that is about it. Do you think it is a good deal or should I wait?

sold my S4 44 mm cellular Aluminum with sport band for $300 today (aka the cheapest possible 44 with cellular) on Craigslist had it listed at $325 and received like 15 texts the first few hours after listing. Might have even gotten the full $325 but one guy was 5 min away so just took the quick sale. I wouldn't take those lowball trade in values only thing that sucks is it looks like ATT finally did away with their free activation and first 3 months that I've gotten with the past few generations

With what Apple is giving for trade this year I’ll just keep it, turn off cellular, and use it for working in the yard. Definitely disappointing that they are giving so little for trade in this year. Tried a few other sites and most of them have dropped their prices down to little more than Apple. I would rather keep it than give it away.

That's how I used to be with my college textbooks. I told the campus bookstore I'd rather take a match to one book rather than they give me the paltry sum they were offering for buyback.

This is just my opinion, but can you accept the scratches on the display? Have you looked at the display to see how bad the scratches are? The price seems fairly tempting, but I personally don’t want to see any scratches on 44 mm display. That’s a turn off for me, but you could apply a screen protector that would help conceal the scratches, but that depends how bad the scratches are.

I’m going to leave my 4 for AutoSleep. S4 was the first generation which had a good hr monitoring so it’s perfect for that purpose.

Hi,
Do you have to return the band and charger too, using macrumors buy back?
Thanks
