According to 9to5Mac, the new S5 does have a new chip.

Quote "While it wasn’t mentioned in the keynote, the new Apple Watch Series 5 indeed runs on a new Apple S5 chip inside: 64-bit dual-core S5 processor, up to 2x faster than S3 processor (includes W3 wireless chip)"

Oh and live radio from the 30th September plus it now has 32gb of storage

They said the same thing about the S4 processor compared to the S3. The chip is new, but we don't know if the actual processor is yet.

The S4 processor was new compared to the S3 though.
Correct... My point is, all we know at this point is that the "Chip" is new. The S5 chip vs S4 chip. And that 9to5mac, and no one else at this point, is claiming that the performance benefit is the same as the Series 4 compared to the Series 3. It could still be a new processor, but just the same speed overall and more energy efficient instead.

Here's the Series 4 Tech Specs website where they say that the S4 processor is twice as fast as the S3. https://support.apple.com/kb/SP778?locale=en_US

They’re comparing the S5 chip to the S3 chip by saying it’s 2x as fast.

They also said the S4 chip was 2x as fast as the S3 chip last year. So it doesn’t seem to be faster. Maybe there were other improvements such as battery life?

Bear in mind the S series is everything in the sealed package. We know the screen driver is new, and there is more storage. Even with the same CPU, that could qualify as a new S-series.

But the S4 is no slouch, so this isn’t a problem in my book.
