I know with iPhones Apple typically clears out older models pretty quickly. Lately my wife has frequent complaints about her Series 3 so really needs an upgrade.

She doesn't care for AOD, but may want the ECG. I'm thinking the best deal will be to look for a Series 5 on sale after the announcement tomorrow.

What are your experiences around the clearing out of previous model Apple Watch stock when a new model is announced?

Historically, the older model will still be available for sale at a reduced price, but I wouldn't expect a greatly reduced price. I don't think it will be less than what the S5 refurb models are being sold for starting at $339.

I don't know that you can buy one now, let alone tomorrow...
It depends on your location. In many places they're available for in-store pickup today. The Apple refurb S5 watches offer overnight and two-day shipping.

I agree with @Namara Apple won’t discount as much as third party retailers. Look to Amazon and BestBuy or BH Video to see better discounts on the series 5 SS models. I wouldn’t expect very much discount on the aluminum models at this point. Later on, (months later) you will see steeper discounts.

Look to....BH Video

Niiiice. You just gave me a nice excuse to stop by photographer's Mecca! :D

Thanks for the replies all! I was certainly assuming 3rd party sellers would be the best option. I wouldn't be in a hurry except that I assume stock will already be low and most S5s would be gone soon. And if the price is close enough, I'll just push my wife to get the S6.

watch out, it's easy to get distracted at B&H and it can cost you a lot of money :p (I speak out of experience:oops::oops:)

Oh trust me, I'm painfully aware. Luckily I have a wife I have to explain things too (unless they are tiny and can be hidden well! :D)

Usually there is a somewhat reduced sale price of old discontinued models immediately but it isn't a big amount. Then somehow stores dig up a few more left overs at Thanksgiving and put them up at fire sale prices and they disappear in hours to a day or two.

If one truly didn’t need an Apple Watch S5 this very moment and wanted a substantial discount, I would honestly just wait it out around the Black Friday release and if you’re timely with being quick, you can nab one if you follow the right retailers. It’s all about strategy.

I can’t answer your question. But is that all the differences between a series 5 and 6?

You can see the comparisons here: https://www.apple.com/watch/compare/

Doesn't include Series 5 since they've pulled it from the site.

Here's a comparison I found:

Series 6 offers additional 5GHz WLan over the 2.4GHz-only WLAN in earlier models.

Nike and Amazon are both discounting various S5 models by $100 today.

That's $100 off the previous price though, not the current price. The current price for the base 40mm GPS S5 is now $349, and a 44mm GPS is $379. You can see the new prices by looking at the Apple refurb store to see the new retail prices crossed out next to the refurb prices. These $100 discounts makes it sound like a large amount because it's based on the old prices. So Amazon and its third-party vendors haven't caught up with the new pricing, and certainly getting a new S5 for a discount is still a good thing.

Thanks, checking with the wife to see if she wants the Nike+ version.

Well, she vetoed the Nike+ edition. She wants gold, which is great since that seems to be what's going on sale/available to some degree.....but so far I've only seen GPS versions.

So waiting for a 40 mm gold S5 w/ Cellular. If I don't find that, I'll eventually just pony up for the S6 for her.
