So I took my series 5 aluminum outside I notice 5 or 6 faint scratches at the top of the screen. My wife has made fun of how careful I have been all weekend. The only thing that has come in contact with the screen is the inside of my hoodie. Is the screen really this delicate?

I have one hard to see light scratch already. Aluminum S5. I don't even know how it happened. Good thing I'm not OCD about it.

I tempted to return since I can not un see them now. My series 1 still looks great.

I have yet to scratch my S4 aluminum have worn coats, hoodies, cleaned it with my shirt. My dog has hit it with her nails and teeth. Still looks like new. Don’t know about the 5, but your scratches may just be the oleophobic coating. Wipe it down with a micro fiber cloth.

Everyone I know with the aluminum has multiple scratches after a short amount of time. The glass sucks. If you are worried about scratches do not get the aluminum watch.

In my personal opinion the aluminum watch looks super cheap too, but I know that depends on the person.

I have had the aluminum Series 0, Series 1, Series 4 and Series 5. None of them had bad scratches. I like the brushed look of the aluminum. I like to upgrade often. Since the technology in the actual watches is identical, I don’t like to spend hundreds of dollars on the metal around the edges and the screen. I prefer having the newest technology. I also like the lighter weight of the aluminum. This year Apple offered $100 trade in for the aluminum S 4 and $110 for the S4 higher priced watches. I am happy there are options for all of us.

I have quite a few blemishes on the edges of the screen from soft flexible cases. Going SS on this next one. Everything else inside the case being the same, the aluminum is the relatively cheap model for a reason.

If you care about scratches get the SS or above. Personally I really don’t care since I use it for workouts, it is scratched like crazy though and has some that look like water stains but I can’t get rid of.

I'm pretty much in the same position, except that I own the S2 and S4. Neither of them have scratches on the screen or the case and they're on my wrist 24/7 unless I'm in the shower. I do use screen protection which I'm sure has absolutely saved me a scratch or a few. There's no question, the Stainless or Ceramic will be the most scratch resistant cases, the screens seem to be more scratch resistant but not completely scratch proof. These are not the same sapphire crystals as used in traditional watches, I believe they are sapphire coated screens. I'm with you, these are tech and meant to be worn and upgraded. When the watch matures to the point where I can get several years out of it, maybe I'll opt for a Stainless Model but I'm super pleased with the basic Aluminum and GPS. I wouldn't mind having a cellular version but not at the current cost to add another device to my bill. I feel like this year they've made plenty of options--the S3 is an attractive entry point, S5's Aluminum, Stainless, Titanium and Ceramic provide something for everyone.

The aluminum Apple Watch does not have a brushed finish. It’s a dull very lightly textured matte finish. The titanium on the other hand... that’s a brushed finish.

What Drew said above is absolutely correct, the Ion-X Glass is absolutely terrible, it scratches easily and I would happily pay the additional $200 to have the stainless model with the sapphire display. When I first owned the aluminum Apple Watch years back, I sold it within three days, and never did I scratch the Sapphire display with the stainless. For some of us, we don’t want to see scratches on a 40/44 mm display. End of story.
