thats not really true. Apple claimed 18 hours for series 4, 5 AND 6. sure the 5 & 6 use more power for some of the new features but they use LESS power for some things like the new CPU which helps balance things out. I’m finding battery life on my S6 to be comparable to slightly better than my S4 with all features turned on. I’ve heard the S5 had a more difficult time with battery life for the first few months until software updates improved things but I didn’t have the S5.
I believe it is true, if the member I was responding to wants an easy 24+ hrs of use from his series 6 before charging. And as we both know, that also depends on type of use, complications, and watch face.

I think some people are making a bigger issue of battery than it really is, considering all that the watch does.

but none of the mentioned watches consistently can do 24-30 hours for all common use patterns, including the S4. The best Apple Watch for battery life was the S3 but that’s a very dated design at this point. No Apple Watch claimed more than 18 hours battery life in its 5 year history and all you can promise to people is what Apple claims. If Apple knew a watch could do 24-30 hours they would say it.

I hate to say this I really do, because I love the Apple Watch and I even really like the Series 6. But honestly, its really just a Series 5S and is the weakest update since the Series 0 was replaced by the Series 1.

- Battery life is exactly the same as the Series 5

- AOD is barely, and I mean just barely, a slight bit more readable outside

- The speed is negligible coming from the Series 5. Its milliseconds faster and really not noticeable

- The Blood Oxygen sensor is gimmicky at best. I'm sure it will improve, but I get different readings all over the place. Even with that, I'm not sure its anything more than something you'll use every once in a while just to see what it is. I don't know if this is what go force touch removed but it wasn't worth it.

-No improved durability or water resistance

-No charging brick and same price for the watch

I just don't think there is that killer feature or hardware improvement that makes this a true leap from last years watch. Its nice, don't get me wrong, but not really any different than the Series 5

After using mine for a couple of days I don't think I'll be keeping it. The Series 5 is the EXACT same watch minus the blood oxygen sensor, which to me hardly justfies keeping the watch. If you are coming from a Series 4 or later, it will be a nice upgrade.

The S5 was a S4S too but there is only so much they can do in 12 months in this already mature product I think. Not really sure what else I want from the watch at this point apart from a better battery? The S6 didn’t make me want to give up my S5 because there isn’t much difference but in some ways that’s good. These watches aren’t really supposed to be upgraded annually and a 3 year cycle is much better for noticing the bumps in performance and features.

I realize all that. The poster I originally responded to claimed he was getting 24 - 36 hrs from his series 4 and expected near that for the series 6. That is why I said he would have to turn off some features, to ty and get to this goal.

I have the S2 and still don't feel like the S6 is much of an upgrade for the $400+ Apple is asking for. I will keep mine trucking for at least another year until the jump is worth (my) money.

Have you heard about S5 one year ago?

For me the main upgrades have been as follows

2015 - base watch
2016 - gps (absolutely essential for me) and big speed bump
2017 - cellular
2018 - new design and ecg
2019 - always on display, compass and more storage
2020 - spo2 and brighter always on display, better GPS and heart rate monitoring

That all seems ok for me with a decent reason to upgrade most years. As I said, I skipped 2019 but I’m enjoying the always on display on the series 6. It all pretty much depends on how important the features are for each person. I go running so gps and heart rate monitoring improvements are a big deal. Cellular was a great add on solely so I could stream music when running. If I wasn’t a runner I wouldn’t have been remotely excited about cellular.

Also, at this point I’m not sure what else I want Apple to add. Eventually I’d like to get to the stage where always on looked the same as when the watch was active. That’s it really. I think there’s loads they could add in software like interval runs, voice coaching and training programmes but it looks like I’ll have to make do with 3rd party apps for that stuff

In your opinion of course !

I agree its a matter of opinion. Some are very happy going from a 5 to a 6. We all know what we are getting from the
preview on the Apple event. That being said i don't upgrade every year. I had the series 0 then upgraded to a 4. What a difference. When i watch an Apple Event I determine if the new features are worth it to me.

Coming from the Series 1, it’s an awesome upgrade LOL
Also, I ran the blood oxygen app multiple times in 3 days and it’s always within the same range, 95-100%.
Nobody said the Series 6 was supposed to be a huge leap over the previous generation. It’s pretty much the same with the iPhone and its annual iterations as well. Why would you even want to upgrade each year?! That’s a waste of money.

Yeah I’m really just upgrading from the 4 to the 6 because I’m tired of the gold SS. The graphite looks great in the pics I’ve seen. That’s assuming the battery life has improved because the series 5 I returned last year was terrible.

i think my oxygen level was low when i was sleeping.

No, and I'm not saying it isn't a good watch, because it is. I was just saying that coming from a series 5, you aren't going to really notice:

Blood O2 sensor - Yes it has it, but its a party trick. Apple has stated its not for medical use and is for "wellness" which really means that its just giving you really wide range on what your O2 level might be, which isn't really useful.

Regarding this and ECG, I would say this provides someone with the possibility of a potential condition with their health. Of course nothing is going to be definitive unless using medical grade equipment, but this is a good step in the right direction for consumers on their own.

i think my oxygen level was low when i was sleeping.

If you look at the data, was it just one reading? (might be a fluke)

If it happens repeatedly or if you have other symptoms (snoring, etc.) best go see a doc!

The only people I encounter who upgrade their watches or even their iPhones annually seem to be on here. In the real world I find people keep phones at least two years and the watch 3 or 4. I quite agree, upgrading annually does seem like a complete waste of money.

You really must not use your watch for much, the S4 and above are so much faster than the S2, like ridiculously so, also OS updates no longer take like 40 minutes either.

I agree about the battery thing , I have to re charge my ipad pro 2-3 times a day ! ( I have the brightness right up and do a lot of gaming on it ) oh and a bit of work :)

Charging the watch each night considering the amazing things it can do doesn't seem that much of a chore

first nice review, seriously I had watch series 3, now watch series 5, changed from series 3 to 5 just cause of always on display, for speed I didn’t feel the change, series 3 was pretty good

keeping series 5 for one more year as blood oxygen monitoring is not worth it :), don’t know what is the use of it? Apple Watch for me I use it mainly for workout tracking and notifications and in rare cases for phone calls (if am in toilet lol, but frankly the speaker is not loud enough for calls)

for series 6 is the always on display really better in direct sunlight? As this is the only thing that might push me for the upgrade 😂

I went from the Series 3 to the Series 6, so this is a noticeable upgrade for me. I’m very disappointed in the blood oxygen sensor. It often fails to get any reading, and when it does the readings have huge variance. If blood oxygen accuracy is important for someone, they shouldn’t rely on this. Get a pulse oximeter for $50 which will be much more accurate.

sad to hear that, return it to Apple store for replacement
