Hi guys,

will a GERMAN series 6 LTE work in the UK, resp. a UK series 6 in Germany?
Or do I have to buy the watch in the country where I am planning to use it?

I remember two years ago, when I bought my series 3 there was some discussion around that but I couldn't find it now on the website.

I did find this support document: https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular/#table-series-6

It looks like the Model Number is the same for UK and Germany - so should it be no problem?

MANY THANKS for your help!

For what it’s worth, the last time I visited Germany from the UK (last year, my plans to visit again this year were ruined…), my series 3 worked absolutely fine. 😊

Many thanks for your answers.

Yeah buy it, say in the UK and then take it to Germany and register it to a German eSIM.

Or is that technically not possible and only a German watch would work with German eSIM?

if it’s the same model it will work.

It looks like it.

If I understand this correct, the Model Number is the same for UK and Germany

No it won't work. I dont know the technical reason but it will only work in the country of purchase. It also does not support roaming (German e-sim used outside Germany)

Yea no.

They are the exact same models in both countries: Germany & UK as listed on the Cellular carrier chart. All the same watch model will have the exact same LTE / UTMS bands. The only restriction is that your iPhone and paired Watch much be on the same Primary carrier unless you are using the new Family Setup feature.

Here are some key items if you might have been thinking about international roaming support considerations for your Apple GPS + Cellular watch.
  • Cellular roaming isn't supported outside your carrier network coverage area.
  • To cover the LTE and UMTS bands used around the world, cellular models of Apple Watch come in regional models for the Americas, China mainland, and Europe/Asia Pacific (same models). Unlike iPhone, there isn't a worldwide Apple Watch model that supports all cellular bands used globally.

I have to respectfully disagree ...... my S5 worked in both UK and UAE (not roaming) when setup correctly with a phone on a plan supporting AW / e-sim

I have a friend visiting me from berlin next week. Lets see if it works, assuming her flight doesn't get cancelled 😂

I think its important to understand what 'works' means ...... the expectations of many are that it will roam, which it doesnt (currently)

The AW needs to be added to an active plan supporting e-sim and then correctly activated by the carrier, its not something that can be easily and quickly tested unless someone is prepared to incur the potential cost of activating the AW (if there is a cost) and be prepared to pair and unpair an AW if necessary.
