I haven't experienced it since updating to watchOS 7.1. So, here's hoping it's finally been dealt with.

EDIT: Disregard. I just hadn't used zoom as much since. Although, it does seem a little better, only acting out after using zoom as opposed to randomly with Zoom simply enabled.

Also happening on my 6 running WatchOS 7.1.while zoom feature is enabled.
Will report through feedback

Same problem here - Brand new Series 6 with Watch OS 7, Zoom was on - issue occurred several times in the first days. Restarting watch cleared the problem for now ... Installing OS 7.1 to see if that fixes problem for good.

Have a great weekend!

Same issue running the latest watchOS 7.1.

rebooting is a temp fix but very cumbersome. I will try disabling zoom as well.

watch 6 al 44mm os7.2
Sometimes swipe up or down doesn’t work for the control cent. or notif on main screen.
Works perfectly in hardware I can still scroll up and down in any app by swiping, I don’t need the crown, the screen swipe works fine.
Already called apple support once, we had to completely reboot the watch (and btw lost all the settings that were supposed to be backuped in The iphone, although a support promised it will be safe) and re set it up. Worked for a few weeks and now frozen again.
Turned off and on afew times, didn’t work.
And turned off zoom - still didn’t work.
Turned off and on now it works. went on the link for apple feedback and asked to Please fix the bug

thanks for the post hope it will work steady now

Recently updated to watchOS7.2.
Now testing with zoom feature enabled to see if the bug has been fixed.

edit: thanks @MacCheetah3 for saving me the trouble.

Its becoming a real problem with apple since a couple of years with many accessibility features breaking the whole OS. We have this problem on watchOS since watchOS 6 and they still didn't fix this one year later. It is a real problem for those like me who need the zoom functionality. Why having accessibility features if it breaks the core functionality of the os itself and Apple don't takes this bug seriously ?

I don't want to jinx this, although, I'll say it again -- hopefully, not needing to later retract..

This finally appears to be fixed.

I've been using, not just still enabled, zoom since watchOS 7.3 launched and no unresponsiveness. I know, I know, made it through some zoom uses before without the watch face freezing. However, this has been days. So, I'm gong to be optimistic.

:)

Now, if Apple would fix Smart Invert for iOS.

So far I didn't had this problem since I installed watchOS 7.3 as well. Finger crossed but I have good hope now after almost a week.

I don't know if it was because of having the zoom activated, but yesterday it failed me again. It was after using nike NTC, I go back to the home screen and swipe up or down locked. I had to reboot.

Still does it on my AW6 Blue Alu with watchOS 7.3 installed, and Zoom enabled. Disabling Zoom fixes it for me, but that really shouldn't be the fix. I've raised it with Apple.

S4 here and had this problem for ages and only could fix by rebooting and then only temporary fix. Glad to stumble across the switching off zoom fix as zoom really annoys me anyway (but realise that really won’t be a useful fix for people who need/use zoom!)

Same problem here - Brand new Series 6 watchOS 7.3. I could not find a pattern when I cannnot swipe up/down. Restart helps, but this is not a solution!

I've apparently had the same problem. I am officially on my third Apple Watch 6, assuming that the first two were defective.

Now, on my third Watch, the same problem exists. I turned off the zoom feature last night. Hopefully, that fixes it.

It is inexcusable that this problem has been around since at least last September (when this thread was first posted) and Apple has apparently done nothing about it. Some people NEED the zoom feature.

Apple simply is NOT the company that it used to be.

The problem came back 2 times in 2 days and the second time I had to restart the watch to resolve this so definitively still not fixed.

I’ve had this problem since purchasing my watch SE in November. It’s intermittent and OS updates on watch and iPhone Xr haven’t helped.

Apple have just sent me a replacement watch and the problem has recurred with this brand new watch.

Is the bug with the watch OS or phone OS?

Based on the comments in the thread, I've now disabled the zoom (shame, cos I found it to be a useful function).

As the issue was intermittent, I need to wait at least 1 week before I can be reasonably confident that it's resolved.

If it is a Watch OS bug, Apple engineers don't seem to be aware of it as they replaced my watch to resolve the issue.

Recently bought aw6 and been intermittently having this problem, usually after a workout. Never had it on aw4 but I’ve now tried turning off zoom, which I didn’t even realise was on. Fingers crossed 🤞

After turning off the zoom feature (which i often used), the swipe issue resolved. After 2 weeks, I turned the zoom back on and the swipe issue recurred. It's been fine since turned the the zoom off again.
