A few weeks before I ordered the Series 7 watch. I got an Apple USB-C Watch magnetic cable that I think is 2M in length. Unlike the 1M Watch magnetic cable that came with my Series 7 watch it has a shiny chrome ring around the outside of the charging puck. The Series Kit lens has a non-shiny aluminum looking ring.

When checking Apple's site I only see a 1M magnetic cable for fast charging. Should assume the my slightly older 2M length lens is not fast charging?

I hop Apple offers a 2M length fast charging Watch magnetic cable, as I need it for my current set-up.

The 2 meter size you got is not fast charging.

Right now the only fast charging puck has a 1 meter cord and an aluminum-covered body rather than chrome plated or white plastic. I expect that there will be 2m and 0.3m cables before long.

The thing about fast charging is that you could get a huge % charge while you shower (and shave, if you're a guy), and then get a good top-up while you brush your teeth in the evening. I think this will be a big convenience for a lot of people.

S7 charges noticeably quicker than S6, I also recall improvements in charging speed on the S6 over the previous generations.

For those upgrading from anything pre S6, it’ll be a huge improvement 🥳

Do we think the fast charging will wear on the battery health faster?

I’ll be upgrading from a series 3 that I bought at launch. I don’t really have battery issues with the current setup. And my battery health is 96%.

I’m just wondering if anyone will keep the old charging puck going in the interest of preserving battery health — or if that is even worth doing

I am not going to worry about it. More than likely, I will be upgrading to the Series 8 watch. And if I don't, I can always get the battery changed in the Series 7, the Series 6 or both. lol My launch day Series 6 battery health is 89%. I think people on here get away to obsessed with battery numbers.

I understand that. If I was upgrading for sure within the next year, I probably wouldn’t worry about it either.

what usb c charger block should I use with it in order to take advantage of fast charging? i know probably the one apple sells, but any Amazon recommendations?

What about the bearded guys? Less time to charge it, I guess.

The difference in wear probably won’t be huge, but by definition there will be increased wear as faster charging always(!) generates more heat than slower charging.

Just keep in mind that it doesn’t fast charge all the way from 0% to 100% but knows how to regulate it to not cause too much heat generation.

I’m partial to Anker, but any 20W USB-C should work fine
Got a few different Anker chargers and they are very sturdy and work well. Just checked amazon for one of theirs and they are not Apple MFi certified, compared to other similar (no-name) chargers on amazon. Would this be alright?

I don’t mind the plastic vs metal puck but I wish that the 0,3m charger with fast charging will be released soon. I like this cable when I need to charge on the go

The power block doesn’t need to be 20w, it just needs to support USB PD.
Apple supply these starting from 18W but third parties can go as little as 5W (and you’ll still benefit from fast charging according to Apple).

I haven’t received my S7 yet... So it needs to be 20W to take advantage of the fast charging? Thanks.
I don’t think it’s just the charging brick that has to be a good wattage. I think there is something inside the new puck that allows the higher charge rate.

LOL, knew that was coming. Even bearded guys need to clean up their necks. But then there's the ladies. Goops... ;)

Apple says 18w 5W or greater, and it needs to be PD-capable (but Apple doesn't specify which version of the USB-C PD standard is required). I sort of doubt that there are too many USB-C adapters of 18w or more that aren't PD-capable, but you should make sure that it is if you want fast charging.

Quote from Apple's support doc:

Fast charging requires an Apple USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable. This cable has aluminum around the magnetic charger and a USB-C connector.

You also need one of these power adapters:

  • Apple 18W, 20W, 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W, or 96W USB-C Power Adapter
  • A comparable third-party USB-C power adapter that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) of 5W or greater
