My series 6 final bit the bullet. Pool party and my screen is now loose and nothing works. Clearly water got into the watch it's torched.

I feel naked without the watch. Funny how that goes but I am sure you can all relate.

So here I am.

Is there a major upgrade from the 6 to 8? Ultra would be the bigger and best upgrade, but is a series 2 coming out in September that I should wait for instead of getting one now?

First world problems here I know.

According to what Mac Rumors in June there will be a Series 9 and a Update to the Ultra. I would wait until September. I understand feeling naked without a Apple Watch.

can't tell from the pic - Aluminum? or SS? or Ti?
if it's Aluminum, I'd get a S7 or 8 on sale - then you can decide in September/Oct if you want the new one.
if it's SS or Ti, that makes it a little hard as you'll spend so much more $$, still would suggest the above for a couple months
S9 or Ultra2 are expected to have a new SOC, won't do much in everyday use, maybe 1-2hrs more battery life. I don't expect anything really new in terms of features tbh ...

I’d wait. You could consider buying a used S7 for a few months. You’d lose very little when you resell it if you’re buying it used anyway.

If you can, I would wait until September to see what the S9 offer and to see if Apple release a Ultra 2 and if they don’t, then you could I’m sure find a new Ultra at a discount somewhere.

Personally, I can’t imagine waiting that long.

First … watch updates are pretty incremental at this point. The Ultra was the first big jump, and, if there’s an Ultra II, it’ll be minor tweaks to the current one. I know lots of people here get really antsy about the CPU … but it’s already more powerful than Cray supercomputers were back in the day and there are zero performance constraints — rather like moaning that the 80 HP motor in your e-bike isn’t enough, and when will it be upgraded to 600 HP?

Were there serious rumors about new sensors, such as blood glucose or pressure, that would give me pause. But, by this time last year, we already were expecting the wrist temperature sensors, so it’s a safe bet that there won’t be anything revolutionary on that front.

If your watch were just fine, sure, maybe it might make sense to wait a couple months. Or if the new watches were going to be released in a week or two. But living without any watch whatsoever in the interim?

Not for me, thankyouverymuch.

Perhaps you should rethink your prediction on this.

Apple updates these things annually and we all buy them like the lemmings we are. Actually, I'm going to make it 3 years on my phone this time. Watches, however....

And, really, lighter? Believe it or not, give me 10 grams of the weight and I might buy it. It might even save the watch for me.

I don’t buy them all annually like a lemming and you don’t need to either. Watches are tougher though because of the lower price, particularly the aluminium ones :D Buying and selling them is not bad as long as you can keep the Watch scratch free, it seems.

I hope there is a worthwhile upgrade this year. If not I’ll be happy to hang onto my current one.

Well, you can just sell them back to Apple each year too. I had a SS, had to get rid of it, and it barely returned more than an Aluminum one. I suspect the Ultra will be like that.

You are right about the aluminum one's. They're almost rentals.

Def wait.. you could find a S7S8 SE for about 165$ if you have to had something… you could find a S6 non SS for 125-150 ebay, and then probably get ~ 90-100 on trade in in the fall.

Which version are you currently wearing, Howard?

What would compel you to upgrade?

I would wait - especially since the S6, 7, and 8 are all the same processor it's reasonable to expect we may finally see improvements this year.

I'm expecting that at minimum the Ultra 2 will be available in a Black DLC coating like the previous generation titanium watches.
