granted my s1 was on 4.3.1 and this s4 is 5.0

But I used stopwatch app and it’s a solid 30 seconds to get to a watch face from initial apple logo

I feel like it was closer to 2 minutes on my s1 and psychotically slow on s0

Wearing my Series 1 until my Series 4 comes tomorrow. I reset the watch to factory settings and installed WatchOS 5 last week. I haven’t installed any apps to it since them.

Just timed Series 1 with WatchOS 5 cold boot: 2:08

So it’s about 4x faster booting the series 4 vs series 1. I like that the math is directly proportional to the series nomenclature :p

It did take forever on my series 1. I was surprised at the difference.

Still waiting for my Series 4 to arrive tomorrow. Regardless, I never had an issue with the load times on the Apple Watch, they did increasingly become faster with Watchos updates over time, but it just shows you the faster processor has really improved the performance and uploads.

Honestly, this would be the biggest temptation for me to upgrade from the Series 3. I do appreciate the S3 being faster than it's predecessors.

it's much fast'er' but definitely not insane in any way. I think it's still inconvenient/old-fashioned that booting takes such a long time. Come back in a few years and we'll be surprised that most people were even okay with this 30s boot time ;)

Well if Series 1 (and assuming Series 2 with the same chip) takes 2min; Series 3 takes 1 min, and series 4 takes 30 sec, assuming linearity, we'll have:

Series 5: 15 s
Series 6: 7.5 s
Series 7: 3.75 s

Will have to wait until at least 2021 until <5s boot up.

To me on series 1 to 4 it is insane

Sliding between watch faces is seamless butter everything the few small things I do load instantly. I’m happy with it

The aesthetic is fantastic too

I kept my small watch Face 38 to 40 and got a substantial screen boost (34 percent I believe)

And app download times seem to be much faster, due to the BT upgrade.
