Diverting the subject to experian.. They don't advertise security and operating systems.

Do you have any understanding of security and operating systems or just blindly defend anything Apple

This should never happen. Has this even happened with Skype when it was shown that with prism?

You don't just have this happen without serious issues ever. I forget but isn't this supposed to be end to end encryption and security as the priority

They got caught and people are reporting FaceTime group chat disabled I wouldn't trust FaceTime or imessage for anything important. Plenty of open source stuff that you can actually trust.

Probably why Apple won't make anything cross platform now. You won't ever know unless they make it open source right?

I keep trying to justify wanting anything from Apple but either it's a throw away product or they want to tell me they know better than me Yeah .. Um throughout history that has been proven to be a very stupid move for a individual.

They could very easily open source ios and osx and be optimized on their hardware and run better than anything else competing But they don't and won't until they lose the fan boys and people who won't learn anything else

Watch Apple is just turning into Facebook I'm out I waited on a Mac pro back for Nehalem architecture and had to build my own since they delayed that 6 months compared to everyone else. Waited for updated xserves for them to discontunue it My mbp fried the gpu that they said wasn't affected and then they said was like every single other company 6 months before them, 2 iPhones with touch disease before it was a huge issue.

Everything since then I switched to works perfectly just degraded batteries on a couple of things

Never needed a extended warranty except with Apple. And if you say their warranty repair is great Nope they screwed that up as well on the fried gpu. I gave that $2700 mbp away after they broke other things replacing the motherboard.

Seems like everything here is advertising.

I see you all saying others wouldn't have any idea because they are not a engineer

LOL I'm a engineer and those people you put down for not being one have the right idea and should complain.

Slashdot went to garbage and this did close to a decade ago.

If you want my resume on being an engineer Nissan sent me to college and I left to work with Samsung while doing architecture for InterZone in Milan

If you think it's difficult to design a case for a iPad pro so it doesn't bend or a actual Mac pro you are also wrong. In the amount of time Apple had had I could of done that with hand tools and a block of aluminum.

It's all retarded and I'm done ranting about how far Apple has fallen and clearly I don't belong here Just another echo chamber.

No company is good not Apple, Microsoft, Dell anyone. Fan Boys and people who stick with any brand will ruin them

You want privacy you must have a open source reviewed software. Not a company that tells you they know best and what you want

I'm done delete my account mods and post some more ads or giveaways or betas.
No diversion, just pointing out that in the world of software and hardware, stuff happens and Apple is not immune to any of it.

Apple turning in to Facebook is just some hyperbole as they don't have a policy of using your information and giving it williy-nilly to third parties and/or harvesting your data for outside profit.

Anyway, your point of view is appreciated. I don't have the same angst as you do.

Yes and does it break the security layer in place to send audio to those who request it And if you want security you pick anything else. Bsd Unix Linux. You know software people can actually audit and fix right then.

Not a system where you have to trust a company that says we know best for you. Here you don't want touch ID let us make things more expensive by adding facial scans and touch bars

This whole "open source is better" argument just doesn't work either. Ever hear of Heartbleed? That was a very serious bug.

No just no It should have never existed in the first place correct?

It should never be allowed without authentication from both sides before doing anything correct?

I can't call someone on a phone and listen to their house while it rings can I? This is basic fundamentals for setting up a conversation. Nothing does it any other way without hardware blocking that or software actually doing what it should.

You don't just mess up by code for this It's a layer of security for one but to screw up like this means there is either a layer that is so stupid easy to screw up by one little error, or they have something normally listening in or both.

If I edit code with a hack and it causes something like this that is a huge flaw because I didn't just break it I caused something else. They did not just break something they exposed what they already had in place.

That's what I'll assume until they show different. And you think they will show anything? Or do you think ios is so secure and protects your privacy

Apple doesn't care its just what you will buy based on what they say Then everyone here repeats it for advertising.

Look at the front page here. It's already buried. Have you noticed yet that something bad comes out then you will see betas advertised for osx, the watch Apple TV, ios, and home pod?

This wasn't the case before. But now many here testing beta software, with Apple lol.

Umm wasn't the point of having Apple products that it was ultra reliable

Apple has changed and I want the old version back Macrumors has changed as well and now it's just advertising.
No bug should exist in the first place. And yet they still do nonetheless. Once again, reality is just that.

Windows 10 has had some serious bugs too that “should never happen”.

1. 1511 update broke all desktop and start menu shortcuts when you click on them once each per restart. You would receive “bad stub data”. Breaking shortcuts that existed for MANY versions of Windows should not happen.

2. 1511 Disk Cleanup (not even system files) was known to completely destroy Windows installs. Luckily we had images and Acronis backups at my work.

I’m a software engineer. It doesn’t matter if it’s on a different layer. Weird bugs like this can happen. I’m not saying it’s not serious, but “should never happen” never works when humans are programming because we all make mistakes.
Also umm didn't osx destroy data recently More than once on hardware Apple controls When the windows bug that messed up data was on a select few types of hardware Isn't the point of Macs is preventing problems like on windows being on millions of different hardware configs I have 6 computers here that are generally on a later release date based on being business grade and had zero data loss and it didn't touch my backup drives running

Some pretty sad comments from Apple defenders here:
  • It's not that bad, you don't even lose data.
  • I don't even use FaceTime so it's not a big deal.
  • It's going to get patched, not a big deal.
  • All software has problems.
  • Yeah, but, Google, Android, but...
  • I have nothing to hide, who cares.
Sad misinterpretations in play that unless something is being bashed that means it is being defended. It's like things can only exist either on one extreme or another, forget that reality is far more nuanced than that.

It's not just a bug for this to happen tho. Something with the layers they should have for security is completely wrong or something else got exposed. It should never ever transmit audio in this scenario

But what do I know just some engineer who is tired of waiting on Apple to change. Clearly I should change and think different.

And the Windows 10 1809 update was pulled because it deleted user's documents and there was a ZIP issue I believe too.

Another serious bug that "should never happen". Guys face it, we are all human, we all make mistakes. We cannot be perfect 100% of the time. You can blame Apple's QC but what about the public beta. Why wasn't it discovered there? Why wasn't it discovered a month ago?

There's theory and best practices and then there are humans and reality. And especially for an engineer in the industry that's certainly something that's fairly well known.

Same as usual for the past decade on here. Should demand better from everyone Apple Microsoft, Google. But like politics everyone just points fingers

Again "never happen" is not something possible to say in software development. I have experienced some "never possible to happen" bugs in some software our company has developed.

I definitely agree. Everybody has gotten much worse. Windows 7 is FAR FAR FAR greater than Windows 10 ever will be with all of these stupid issues Microsoft is making lately.

I'm not downplaying anything. I'm commenting on the reality of the situation that something like this can still happen with even improved and amazing quality assurance in play. There's is no way to guarantee that there would be no issues at all.

Seems like the interpretation of that is somehow being taken as if nothing could or should be done to avoid things like this and that things can't be improved. Which, as I mentioned before, isn't what is being said. All that is being commented on is that reality falls in between the extremes--an issue coming up doesn't necessarily mean things are just horrific and basically no work happens and that's it.
LOL what is quality assurance? You mean advertising jargon Apple gave you Show me the quality assurance Apple has given in the past year compared to before they ever used those words.

That is just marketing garbage

Rhetoric is good and certainly has its place, but it only gets as far as rhetoric can. Certainly plenty of it in all kinds of directions here and all over for many many years.

Well, if we are now trying to attempt to split some sort of hairs on the naming of concepts or particles, seems like there wasn't really much to discuss after all. LOL indeed.

EVERYONE...Apple...Microsoft...Google...Bethesda...You name it. EVERYONE needs to just SLOW DOWN. This rapid updates process just is not working and we have got very serious issues out of it. I would rather have Microsoft release ONE Windows 10 update every two years that is very good than their current approach that just messes things up.

Same with Apple. I would much rather have a new OS every two years (macOS and iOS) that is much more polished.

All software development these days adopted the "release now patch later" approach. Things like video games and even software from Adobe. SLOW DOWN GUYS! Get the software right.

Ok pick a open source voice chat software. Has this ever happened

It's free and open source. Apple isn't free and closed source with close to a trillion dollars and advocate privacy. Why would they not want their software reviewed to assure people it is secure?

Like the guy I replied to recently who wouldn't even talk to someone outside of imessage. People should get outside their bubble when he won't talk to a green bubble person or whatever lol.

Apple only cares so far as the sell and only has to look better than Android Same crap they did with the I'm a PC ads. All sides suck and need to do better.

Unfortunately in the instant gratification society of today that has its downsides as well.

Just because something is Open Source doesn't make it immune to serious bugs. I mentioned Heartbleed. There is no Facetime in Open Source software. I can write up something with this intentional bug and release it. I can make this bug only appear if you input 123444564118618141651 on the num pad (it is more of a feature at this point but you get my meaning here). Until someone discovers this (as what happened here with Apple) the fact that it is an open source software does not mean it is immune to the issue. What if nobody looked at that part of the code for 4 months or so (as with this case it took a few months to find this bug)?

Something similar that I personally have experienced so many times is when Adobe After Effects CC 2015 was released, and it was months after the initial release. You would end your composition and provide your closing remarks in audio. When you exported it from After Effects, it would REPEAT the last 1 second of the composition. So if you ended the video with "Thanks for Watching", the result would be "Thanks for Watching Thanks for Watching". This should NEVER happen. The composition was set to X minutes long in several places. It should never have resulted in X + 1 second and repeat the last 1 second.

Very true We have solid operating systems and don't need more crap dumped on us just to be new Like many give the example of windows 7 compared to 8 and 10

Nothing great is going to happen for a while except maybe some battery tech

But the foundation for secure software for voice and text has been around for a long long time That's why I am saying something else got exposed

I can have encrypted chat and voice in a web browser and it's been around a while and sandboxed.

Something else happened because you don't just hit the wrong button and it goes to master release lol.

Also Adobe has a long history of not caring about anything other than profit. Forget who kept flash around? Or the million and one exploits in pdfs and acrobat? I would be terrified if they made a os lol.

And there are bugs that can break sandboxing too. There was a bug that allowed breaking through a Python sandbox which implemented OS isolation.

And this CANNOT be patched in 6 days? Did it already pass the 6 day mark?
It was patched in 6 days see Wikipedia.

Which bug that effects the maker of an OS hardware and their own app?

I think the main thing to keep in mind is open source CAN be scrutinized by the public. I agree that does not mean issues fixed overnight, but it means an ongoing review by third parties. MUCH better than the current closed doors system where maybe one day a glitch reveals something crazy & it hits headlines, kind of like what is going on right now. Open source system we would all be saying "oh yes indeed the spying mechanism is getting in the way, of course we knew that, tsk tsk who programmed that in there what a pain". It would be obvious and transparent & we would work around it because of that. Vs this closed door system it is a never ending battle & we the consumer are the loser.

THAT is why open source is a better, more secure system. I have also had the "world is open source" dreams, in theory it would be ideal in every way. But capitalism is also a powerful force.
