Consider this when shooting macro… the cameras on the 13 and 14 pro/max focus close and it can be difficult to hold still. At this close range focus can be an issue. I use Halide sometimes and use the manual focus mode with focus peeking turned on. If you aren’t used to taking macro, it can be a challenge. Even in the default camera app, you’ll have to touch the screen where you want the camera to focus and get spot meter exposure. You may also have to adjust the exposure compensation to lighten or darken the photo you are about to take. I get that most of iPhone users just get the camera close and hope for a great macro shot. Well, unfortunately it doesn’t work well that way. Making the focus and exposure adjustments is the only way you’ll get the best outcome. You get out what you put in. No different from using a DSLR, macro takes time and effort to get an awesome shot. For the most part, it’s not the camera delivering bad shots, it’s the end user… the camera is a tool, no matter how expensive. High end cameras are more than capable of delivering bad shots if the user doesn’t know to control the camera to deliver the best results.
Default camera failed on focusing on thin weed branch:
Halide with manual focus and focus peeking turned on, exposure adjusted.
Not the best example, but a real world example.
