Seriously now, why has Apple gone downhill?

First: I am not a troll.

    Computing background
    - used Macs for over 20 yrs
    - use PCs at work
    - power user with some apps
    - complete novice with other apps

    Current needs
    - portablity BUT with workstation power
    - use Final Cut Studio to edit home movies
    - use OpenOffice because it is free
    - whole lot of obsure PC programs that I must use
    - overall I am very knowledgable in the my specific needs
    - BUT I have a unwavering opinion on everyone's else needs

    1. Price
    - when you compare the price of PC against equivalent Mac, they are always different, some more expensive, some less, BUT NEVER THE SAME PRICE!
    - Apple say it is because Macs are a different color and the logo's are hand built, BUT that is rubbish
    - so why dont Apple make cheaper machines in every category? because they just want to make money, makes me sick

    2. Software
    - I dont care that Apple bundle h/w and s/w together, because I can get a PC with Vista and it is the same
    - well except all the PC s/w works differently and is not integrated - but that is a training issue only
    - PC apps are the same as OSX apps (eg. Photoshop), sure the UI is different, but apart from that they are the same - so why do I need OSX?

    3. Historical comparison
    - it is pretty obvious that you can still run OSX on PPC hardware that in many cases is more cost effective than buying a new machine
    - therefore all new Apple Intel machines are a ripoff because they cost more and there are some bugs that my friend's friend has experienced

    4. Reliability
    - I have read all the major Mac user forums and have discovered that a majority of people posting on them have hardware problems
    - therefore it is pretty obviously that Apple does not care about quality control
    - people (mainly in the US where return policy is very liberal) have returned dozens of faulty machines
    - I myself have returned 10 XSERVES because they are so f***ing NOISY

Or pretty soon you WILL lose all your valuable Mac forum posters ... it would number in the thousands. Think about that all that lose revenue.

We just want to be able to run Final Cut Extreme on a Mac Mini with a 42" monitor for under $1000, is that too much to ask?

I really don't know what this thread is about; you're certainly not going to get the answer you want because you haven't asked any questions.

ah hell...'s just directionless ranting. And Apple hand-makes all it's logos? Using who? How do they get them absolutely identical, every single time, as if they manufactured them using a machine?

Perhaps what you're referring to is the old rainbow logo that required 7 paint passes, and so cost a lot of money?

Brilliant. Even funnier? There will be more replies from people thinking it's real, even after these posts.

I realize the OP is being "funny" and poking fun at the people who clamor for a mid-tower Mac, but I think that this part,

is really ironic. The "joke" here is supposed to be that the mid-tower wanting crowd claims to know what's best for everyone else, which is of course silly. But, this entire post makes an assumption that the OP knows what's best for Apple and it's users.

It also marginalizes the demands for a mid-tower Mac. Sure, there's not a HUGE market in the existing Mac user base for one because the people who have made the switch have found their niche. They've either opted to get a new display every time they want a new computer, and a new computer every time they want to upgrade anything in their current system, decided that the lowest end was enough for their needs, or have committed to spending $2500+ on their computer.

The biggest market for a mid-range headless Mac, though, will be switchers, especially now that Macs can dual boot or run Windows in a virtual machine, who are fairly computer savvy and as a result (1) are tired of Windows, and (2) know exactly what they want, and aren't seeing it from Apple.

i do not like it when people attempt humor on monday mornings. keep your humor to yourself. at least till wednesday afternoon. basically don't talk to me on monday mornings. wait till wednesday afternoon before you talk to me. unless there is new hardware released on tuesdays. then you can complain about the graphics cards. that's all i have to say.

I thought it was pretty clever..almost had me there for a second.

mrgreen4242...I have to opposite opinion than you. I don't have any statistics either, but I don't think there is much of a market at all for mid-tower Mac...especially from switchers. I think they want to get aways from the whole tower monitor thing. I know I did when I switched in 2004. It was a total change in computing. And getting away from the old PC "standard" of tower - monitor and going to a small footprint, integrated iMac was a BIG part of that.

In answer to most of your question: you pay for the Mac experience. End to end it's far superior and better supported than a PC. And I'm not sure what your bit about 'profits making you sick' is - they're a corporation, just like Dell. Just like HP. Just like Intel.

And what bugs are you talking about? Just in the new Intel machines?

I do think however that Apple need more of a range of computers, not the current divide of Mini, iMac and Mac Pro.

    One mile up and soaring
Beware of any threads started by join date = today.

Or last week or last month. Some people want useful info, most haven't bothered to search threads for their answer before posting their thread.

And even more and recently seems to be in dire need of specific, somewhat uneducated answers, again look first - especially with the new Apple TV subforum, how many threads are there with the urgent yellow triangle yelling pay attention to me.

--- on a side note, it may be nice to see the advanced thread/post search options improved to give results that contain all the words searched for, not just one of the words. It would refine results and make it much much easier to find what you are trying to track down the answers to.

I realize you all think this is a humorous thread, but... I keep on hearing people talk about big corporations. Anytime people complain about corporations that are just in it for the money I wish they would realize that they also have jobs, they also are trying to make money. If there is a level of success at which it suddenly is no longer morally or socially acceptable to make money, then someone inform me of where that level is so I can be sure that if and when I cross it I can adjust my behavior to be in accordance with the expectations of the head of an evil empire.
