It depends on what codec you use. I have ~400 songs right now, and it takes up 10 GB.

The iPhone's built-in DAC isn't good enough to make these bitrates matter, not to mention that on the go you probably (although I can't be sure, to be fair) don't have an environment or audio equipment (headphones) to appreciate the difference between this and 256Kbps AAC.

I wave the audiophile flag around sometimes but on an iPhone it's just not necessary to rip at such high bitrates. I use the option in iTunes to downconvert my ALAC to AACs and don't have to think any further about it.

Well you must have a faulty device because u should have a ton of space left. You could store about 3500 songs on 16gig.

No, like I said before in the post you quoted, they must have low quality music. A 16GB iPhone will hold 3500 128kbps songs, poor quality. If you actually care about quality and want 320 kbps mp3's then it will fill up a lot faster.

I have figured out the cheapest option for me to get a new phone is to, either go to AT&T or sprint for an iPhone, and cancel my contract on Verizon. It would be 850$ for me to get a new 64gb iPhone 5 on my Verizon. But only 600$ the other way.
Seem like a good idea?
My iPhone 4S stopped working so I do need a new one.

how is it costing you $600. does this mean if you go with a different provider? even if this is the case the worse it would cost you is $399 for a iPhone 5 64GB.
