Service Issues after Cydia 1.1

After installing Cydia 1.1 and rebooting I've had my service bars switching between 0 and 5 yet no data going through regardless of what it shows. The thing that confused me is even in safe mode I have this problem. Think it's merely a coincidence with a service outage in my area or is it a possible something on a jailbreak can affect my phone even in safe mode?

Cydia has nothing to do with the operability of your phone.

Turned off 3G. It's working fine over EDGE. Must just be a local 3G outage.
