Waiting for my iPhone to arrive and looking at how to transfer everything over from my iPhone 13. Have used a Mac and iCloud backups and restore in the past, but thinking of using Quick Start and Transfer Directly from iPhone this time. A couple of questions.

1. Will the new iPhone do the update to 16.1 automatically as the first step when I turn it on or ? and then you will be prompted to use Quick Start.

2. Using Transfer Directly from iPhone, will it transfer iWatch Data or do I have to unpair the watch from my old phone and pair with my new (How does my data come over then if I don't restore from iCloud or Mac.).

1. it will prompt you to download 16.0.1. 16.1 isn't out yet for the iPhones.
2. it should transfer your Apple Watch data and pair it to the new iPhone.

The instructions from Apple don’t cover this very well. Do I unpair the watch from my old phone before starting to transfer device to device or do i do this after or not at all.

IIRC when you setup your new iPhone and transfer from your old it will transfer the watch too. But to be sure do a backup of your old iPhone before you do anything and then if you have to unpair your watch and setup again on the new iPhone, your watch is backed up so you can restore it.

Thanks. Do I still have to unpair before backing up my old iPhone Or will a backup done without unpairing work.

I opted for the Device to Device transfer option and my Apple Watch hasn't moved across... am I safe to just unpair and set up as new on the 14?

My appointment was at 8:45 but I came in at 8 and was able to get my Thanos 14 PM right away.
Did the trade in with my green 13 PM as well.

I gotta say the whole eSim issue was so over blown. The whole process took 30 seconds.
I was sitting table at the back of the Apple store with about 15 people ans it all went extremely fast.
One person took 60 seconds and that was just because he was going from a physical sim to esim

I did the data transfer from old phone to new phone and it took less that 15 minutes.

Did you have an iWatch and did the history come over using the device to device over air data transfer

Pretty happy with my 14pro max going from a 12 pro max. Only thing I just spotted which looks like it’s been forgotten is the activity dot; whilst on a call. Floating randomly by the battery.

Just picked mines up.

Sim to E-Sim transfer literally took 1 minute from an iPhone 11 PM to 14 PM. Both phones were bought unlocked, and I'm on T-mobile. This was before it went through an update.

Currently setting it up.

Did you unpair the watch and then do the backup on iCloud. But did the transfer in the store device to device and were able to pair the watch using the iCloud back up without a full restore

I did a full back then unpaired the AW before heading to the the apple store. While in line I did another back up.
But to be honest that didn't matter because I did the device to device data transfer. When it was all complete i went home and paired my AW again
