The SETI@home project is ending.

Massive project to analyze space signals to end; hunt for 'ET' goes on

https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/202...-signals-ending-hunt-continues/9001769613937/

"After years poring through immense amounts of generated data, the program's co-founders at the University of California at Berkeley told UPI this week they are probing 100 detected signals deemed to be the best candidates for messages from "ET" before the effort is wrapped up for good, 27 years after it was launched."

At the start of the project, they were hoping to get 50,000 people to volunteer their computer time, but they had almost 1 million within a year, and then over 5 million. Team MacRumors helped along the way.

They may not have confirmed any alien signals, but they pioneered important technology and expanded the reach of astronomical research and data analysis.

thanks for posting.
I was there at the beginning, when 'free computing power' kind of existed - SETI was a good way to stress test new server's CPUs 😀

Damn… now that I was going to get an M5 Mac mini, and could have offered a substantial amount of processing power to the project… Hopefully, Folding@home continues working.

By the way, this is a crucial moment in history due to AI. An AI well trained could be automated to search for any interesting radio signal. It’s sad that this kind of projects end…
