Can I set up a video in the background or as a desktop wallpaper? I am using OS X 10.9.4.

Earlier there was such an option while playing a video using VLC player. But in this version I could not see that.

Or something could be done with MplayerX or Mplayer OS X?

Thanks

it's $1.99. and, you can do what i did: delete (from package contents) many or all of the built-in videos. i got rid of most of them, brought the app to 46.6 megs.

so, cheap, and easy to make a smaller file. and it works flawlessly.

$1.99....

Perhaps using something like this gem (SaveHollywood) :
http://s.sudre.free.fr/Software/SaveHollywood/about.html

with the applescript posted here (in the comments section) :
http://www.maclife.com/article/columns/easy_mac_hacks_set_screen_saver_desktop_background

This worked perfectly for me. Now I'm downloading some sweet, free videos from http://coverr.co/ to play on my desktop!

Now what I REALLY would like to do, it stream live youtube videos to my desktop background... not sure if SaveHollywood would support that. The only supported video formats are .mov .mp4 .m4v
[doublepost=1515708247][/doublepost]AHA! I figured out how to do live youtube videos as desktop

1. download https://github.com/liquidx/webviewscreensaver/releases/tag/v2.0
2. use a url with ?autoplay=1 like https:// www.youtube.com/ embed/KdvHzgcElx0?autoplay=1 (spaces added to prevent automatically embedding the video

Needed to re-activate my macrumors account just to thank you for this. Although the page you guys are referring to with the script apparently no longer exists, but I hope it won't be too difficult to find something similar. Thanks everyone anyway for all the ideas!
[doublepost=1554915702][/doublepost]So apparently just the script won't do the job anymore and you would need a little bit more of tweaking which I'm not very fond of, so I resorted to VLC which does the trick of setting a Youtube video (or any other it can play, really) as my wallpaper/desktop. Resolution is not the greatest but it's so far the safest solution I could find. Would be interested if anyone finds anything better.
