I am setting up a new Macbook Air and at the Create a Computer Account screen I have the option to "use my icloud account to log in" rather than setting up a standard system password. How does this work when wifi is unavailable or when using terminal etc. What are the benefits over a standard system password.

    Thanks for any help

I've recently reinstalled OS X on multiple machines. I don't remember the option to have iCloud replace a user login. I know they have you log into iCloud so you can access all of your iCloud related things, but I'm pretty sure you still have to set up an actual user profile on the machine.

Sure - the initial setup on a new Mac gives you the choice to do that - and is one of the reasons that you have a Time capsule backup, eh?
