Hi I want to set up an ftp of my public folder so I can access my files anywhere, how would I do this?

when I click ftp in sharing I get my ftp address but when I put it in my browser it says I don't have permission to access Macintosh HD.

You need to use an FTP client that supports authentication. If you're accessing your files from another Mac try using Cyberduck.
