I recently got a new iMac and want to set up my MobileMe/Google accts. What's the general consensus on Google Apps. vs Mobile Me? I like using iCal, but I know Google Calendar can be used the same way with an iPhone/iMac. What about Contacts? Is there a way to have it set up via the Contacts app and autosync'd with Google? Or is there an even better desktop app?
Second - whats the best way to set up MobileMe on a new computer? For example, I have some things I would like to port over. In Mail for example, would it remember all the settings I had set up if I ported it over via Mobile me options?
I tried this previously (copied everything over), and it copied my keychain over from my old computer. I don't want that! There is an option to send your computers settings to the cloud, which is nice. But if I tick keychains, for example, I just want to make sure that MobileMe will know to transfer the new info over like I asked before it autosync's the old info, if that makes sense.
Also - what about email? Currently I have been using Mac Mail with IMAP for Gmail and .Mac mail. It was a nightmare to set up. (I hate Gmail's "never delete" feature and had to set it up to work that way.) So, if the settings port over correctly from the cloud, is this the best way to have your email? I ask because it is still problematic. For example, I recently discovered that if I reply to a message that is in a Folder in Mail (label in Gmail) my reply appears as a separate message in my folder in the Mail app. It has to be in a folder for this to occur, but that's how I need to be organized.
Finally - when setting all this up what's the best way to set up the phone? i.e. if I stick with the Mail app, do I need to even select my accounts to sync in the iTunes options? Or is it just all over the air?
So now that I have a new machine, I'm just looking for ways to refine my processes to save any headaches. Sorry for the huge amount of questions, hoping to get some good ideas and thoughts. Thanks!
