In the past whenever I've got a new laptop, I've connected it to the previous one via ethernet (lately via thunderbolt to ethernet adapters), as wifi file transfer is comparatively very slow. I'm planning on getting a new macbook around launch time - is there going to be anything more sensible than getting a USB C to USB adapter with it, plugging that into a USB to ethernet adapter (which I already have), and using that to do the transfer?

Your options are limited wifi, dongle and ethernet or dongle and usb.
