Every once in awhile when I use the settings app in iOS 5 on my iPhone 4S, it just force closes. Is anyone else having this issue? Is this something that will be fixed in an iOS update? This is my first iPhone so its not like I restored my 4S from a previous iPhone (which I know can cause issues).

does it close on the same setting inside the settings folder? because a hard reset could fix the issue...or just close the settings, then close then from multitasking and try that, but hard reset could fix it too

It normally force closes just by opening the settings, and I don't think it's a specific folder it does it on. I have done a hard reset, and it didn't fix it.

Settings, IM+, messages, facebook, Digg, App Store, Phone, Mail, CNET News, iFunny, and machinima are the most common apps I have running. I always close games when I am done with them.

My 1st 4s force quit on maps and music but not settings. It would open for a second then go back to home screen.

A hard reset fixed it for a while but eventually it would happen again.

Good to hear that I am not the only one having force quit issues :D
Now only if we can figured out how to fix it. Hopefully it will fix itself or an iOS 5 update will fix it.

I have had this exact same thing. Not very often. Somewhere between 1 out of 20 times to 1 out of 30 times. My phone was set up in DFU mode, set up as a new phone and no usage of any backup. So a pretty clean install. I have done hard resetting and finally redid my installation. I have never had this before on all my versions of 4.3.3 and lower. I bet this will be fixed in an update although our problem is hardly ubiquitous.

Guessing you are coming from Android saying force quit, since you see that dialogue 5000 times a day with that crappy os.

Try restarting the phone. You can also check debug diagnostics.

When it crashes go to Settings/General/About/Diagnostics and Useage/Diagnostics and Useage Data

You will get every event that has happened recently. If it just crashed you should see a crash report at the top. Read it and see if there is anything you can see causing it.

Actually, I got force quit from Mac OS X. Thanks for the tips though, I will look into it whenever an app crashes again.

You might want to be careful so you don't get into trouble with a moderator.
