Starting a new job Monday and just received the following: 2017 MBP - 13" w/TB Belkin TB3 Express Dock LG 21.5" Ultra 4K monitor Spare 87W charger with spare USB-c cable (not sure why they sent the larger one with a 13" MBP) My understanding is that if I connect the MBP directly to the monitor, the ports on the LG drop to USB 2.0 speed. In order to maximize speed and have the least amount of cables (I'm not opposed to connecting two cables to the MBP when I dock, but would prefer just one), what would be the best way to connect this all up? I'd like to run the cables, Velcro tie them all up and put in a sleeve to make it neat. Thanks for the help!
I would connect the Belkin Dock to the MBP... then everything else including the monitor to the dock. That gives you just one cable going to the MBP to deal with when you go mobile. The LG ports won't drop all the way down to USB2. They will be somewhere between USB2 and 3. Depending on that yu are doing, that may be plenty fast for you.
