Is there a way I can get my 3gs to only connect to the wifi when an app needs to.

As I'm in the office and there is always wifi, it is always sucking the battery. I dont' want to turn the wifi off as I would prefer to have the 3gs fetch the mail over wifi rather than the mobile carrier.

Am I right in saying that 3G will use battery just as quick as Wifi...???

I have wifi on all the time an notice no battery drain difference to 3G...

Also you can charge your iPhone while sitting at the desk so I find it's not too much of an issue...

Maybe someone else here can give a more accurate idea of how much Wifi drains the power...

To answer your question I think Wifi is either on or off... There's no way of adjusting how it connects... If you set your email to 'push' with exchange at work that might save some battery?
