I regret terribly that I upgraded to Ventura.

1. When I drag windows to another monitor the windows just disappear until I let go of the cursor

2. when I go to file > open on many apps like firefox, the popup doesnt display BUT IT WILL display if I open and collapse mission control for some reason

3. every time I wake from sleep I get bombarded by the same "background items added" notifications over and over. 8 of them!!!

4. The apple music app is terrible. Randomly sound will just die until I reset the track. Other times sound is incredibly stuttery or just generally buggy.

5. If you use stage manager and restart your mac then it reopens all windows but not in the same staged groups s they were in before. Very unpolished.

6. In stage manager if I have two windows for the same app in two different groups on two different monitors, and I open one of those groups on monitor A, then monitor B automatically switches to its group that has a window for that app.....

And also the settings app is just awful! For example lets say you want to manage when your computer shows the screensaver and when it sleeps. Before this was just in the power section. Now it's spread across THREE SECTIONS. Screen saver is its own section, if you want to configure when the screensaver shows then its randomly just in the lock screen section, and lastly if you want to prevent the computer from sleeping its under displays.... I don't even...

I agree that Stage Manager, while a great fresh approach to managing app windows, is disappointingly buggy. I hope Apple fixes the bugs and doesn’t lose interest like it happened so many times with other promising new features (just say Siri).

I still haven't upgraded. Still too many bugs. Its become the nature of Apple to release buggy system software -- software in general. I'm now stuck between forgoing apps that require Ventura (or Windows) or upgrading and regretting it. I'm a heavy email user and Ventura Mail appears very broken, worst than Monterey broken.

love these 'sky is falling' posts... especially when people assume that the problems they're having are everyone's problems and therefore 'bugs'.

but i've learned that trying to point this out is often hopeless; so many people would rather rant & whine then come here for help and advice.

ventura mail is fine here. i have no issues with system settings. i don't use stage manager, so can't comment on that.

am not saying there aren't actual bugs, but every issue is not a bug, and the sky is definitely not falling...

Well, I’m pretty sure that Monterey has a number of bugs that have been fixed in Ventura, so upgrading is definitely an improvement.

I’m amazed by your statement that Ventura Mail seems very broken. I have experienced several issues with Mail in Monterey, but most if not all are fixed in Ventura. It’s definitely much more stable than it was in Monterey. I’d be curious to learn what problems you are referring to?

I think that Ventura, while certainly not perfect, is better than staying with Monterey.

I wonder if these two have the same root cause. Perhaps Apple support can help. It could be an issue with monitor resolution and require some kind of reset on the Mac to get things right. Just guessing.

I've seen some strange behavior when dragging between two monitors. Usually the part of the window on the monitor without the mouse pointer shows translucent. But, I've also seen it disappear. It's kind of easy not to notice it since it doesn't get in my way.

Whenever I start VMware I get that notification. When VMware exits the items show as disabled and eventually get removed. I can see those details at the terminal with "sudo sfltool dumpbtm". I guess these install/deinstall events vary by application. So, there's probably some application you have that is causing this.

Regarding Stage Manager and System Settings: these are new applications. Apple is particularly bad at testing (bugs and usability) before release. I see lots of issues with both. I don't use stage manager because of the idiosyncrasies. I hope both apps get better.

But, I whole heartedly agree that Music is awful. I also see music sometimes just stop and refuse to play. The album listing by artist is kind of horrific. Sometimes the "Albums >" button is missing and I can't get the list of albums in two dimensions; I have to scroll to the right to see the hidden albums. I recently found an example where the 2-d grid has more albums than the list I get from scrolling. Check out artist "Hiromi".

Complaining is good - Apple might take notice. This website gets plenty of traffic and they must look at it themselves. Reporting directly to Apple is probably less useful since there's no visibility outside of Apple and they can easily lose the report in the pile they receive every day. However, calling Apple support for help is always a good idea.

In both Monterey and Ventura, sending a mail can result in the mail never going out and never to be seen again. There’s also an unusually long period when you click send but the outbox doesn’t appear. At times never appearing and that’s when the mails are lost. I (and others) then have the pleasure of rewriting from scratch. I now compose anything long in Notes then copy paste in email. A functioning proxy for Drafts in the Mail app.
I have no personal experience but I’ve read the exact same issues exist in Ventura.

Its funny, just yesterday I was with a major systems project manager who uses Windows professionally and Mac as her and her husband's personal computers. She mentioned in spite of far superior hardware with Apple, they're moving the personal side to Windows. Too many irritations with buggy software and more limited functionality with dual platform 3rd party vendors was her rationale.

Given the magnitude of Tim Cooke's comp, I would think he alone could contribute to hiring a small team to focus only on QC. Not what marketing wants and we've seen Cooke's response to QC for years.

That mail issue is a surprising one. I've not seen it. What mail service do you use? My Apple Mail is connected to Gmail, Fastmail, and iCloud mail and, as far as I can recall, I haven't seen that in Monterey or Ventura.

that is funny! and with that one couple moving to windows, it's game over for apple. 🙄

meanwhile, those of us who are happy (or even, happy enough) with our macs & ventura will get on with our work...

I take it back. I just saw now what I was referring to. The part of the window on the monitor that doesn't have the mouse pointer shows translucent until I release the mouse button. Then it goes invisible. It seems intentional and probably how I would have designed it.

Never seen this email bug either. The delay may be caused by the intentional delay that allows you to pull back a sent mail for a specific time. It’s usually 30 seconds, but perhaps, if it’s that what causes your issues, you may want to try with disabling this feature (i.e. select “no delay” in Mail settings).

I just can't make the move to Windows. Even though I find a lot of bugs and complain a lot, I just enjoy MacOS and Apple hardware so much. I enjoy Windows too (lots of technical doodads there), but just not as much as a daily driver.

my main apps are logic pro and final cut...so it's mac OS for me (but fortunately i prefer this OS anyway).

but ultimately, i don't care what people use, as long as they're happy, and/or getting their work done. the OSes, the apps, are all paths to the same things...
