Hi guys,

i have shadow glitches in Quake 4 and Prey with my Nvidia 7800GS, with my Radeon 9800 Pro all is fine.

But these problem is only in Quake 4 and Prey (Doom Engine). AOE III, WC III, C&C Generals, Battlefield 1942, OGL Extension Manager Tests… looking pretty normal.

Please tell me this is a driver/game bug and not a defective shader unit.

System is a G5 Dual 2 GHz
Leopard 10.5.8
AGP 7800GS

If it is the shader unit, i have the chance to get a replacement for an acceptable price. So an awnser would be nice.

No one with a NVIDIA 7800 who can help me to find out?

Prey is available on Macintoshgarden.org

have you tried reinstalling so called drivers(files)? I have a A7800GS but its not a right moment to use it(as its not in my mac). However I dont remember problems with Quake or Call of duty C&C Generals, Battlefield 1942 when I was playing.

What driver files? In 10.5 Geforce 7800GS drivers are incuded "driver files" are needed for Tiger i know.

Call of Duty 2, C&C Generals and Battlefield 1942 are looking normal to me only Quake 4 and Prey (doom engine) has flickering shadows (better to see in Prey).

PLEEEEEASE change GPU and take a look to help me^^

What?! Prey was release on G5..oh my fc s. I’l go download it right away. For the op, I never had any shadow bug with quake 4 on ppc using a nvidia 6600le, 6800 ultra, and radeon x1900gt. I dont think your card is defective, must be a driver issue.

Can you Test prey with the 6800 ultra, because us I know the 6800 is using the same architecture.

@TzunamiOSX everything maxed in 1600x900. Same issue as you. I’l test on my x1900gt. Btw its cool, I had a playthrought going, on my 360. Better start over on a G5 with keyboard and mouse. Last time I beat this game was on pc back in 2009 with a radeon 9800 pro :p

@TzunamiOSX I have no issue with my x1900gt. The shadow are fixed. Its a driver or a port issue, your card is fine.

Its unfortunate of course....

Oh. I've just realized that I have the same problem with Quadro 4500 in my Quad G5. Seems like it's an issue with Nvidia Card in Quad G5. I have not tried my Dual G5 + 6800 Ultra yet. Perhaps I can try the stock 6600 came with my Quad G5 before I hook up my dual G5.

Seems like getting an ATI card will fix the problem. Thanks for the info.

I have found informations about flickering textures that has something to do with anisotropic filtering on curie architecture (Quadro 4500 is also Curie)

I've made a test with console command "seta image_anisotropic 0" and also a few different values [1,2,4,8,16].

Not helping at all. Seems like Nvidia driver issue.

I've tried the settings in the steps provided in this link. Nothing change the so far.

I’ve just tried it again with the stock Nvidia 6600. Seems like the problem still persist with the stock card. I’m quite confirm that it’s the Nvidia driver issue. I wonder whether it’s better with OSX tiger. I’m running OSX Leopard at the moment.
