    Hello,

I need a new notebook soon and the latest MacBook Pro retina would be a good pick. I have noticed it has just been updated.

My doubt is whether there is the risk that Apple will redesign it soon making the current version outdated or whether I am not running this risk that much.

Can you please advise your opinion on this matter?

    Thanks for advising, daniele

There have been at least 10 threads created in the past few days asking the same question and to all of them I say the following:

Regardless of when you purchase a MacBook, there will ALWAYS be a newer model. Forget about what's being released when, just purchase it based on whether you NEED it at the moment...not in the future :)

Buy now. They've just been refreshed and we have no idea when they will be updated again. Unless you plan on getting a new one every 9 months or so, you will never have the latest and greatest for long.

I would look for a 2013 model. They are essentially the same as the 2014 refreshes, and can be had for considerably cheaper.

The earliest the update would happen would be 2nd quarter 2015, with Broadwell

Where are you getting these numbers?

    13 inch base models
    2013 i5/2.4/4/128 13 inch refurbished-$1019
    2014 i5/2/6/8/128 13 inch new-$1299
    Difference of $280

    13 inch mid tier
    2013 i5/2.4/8/256 13 inch refurbished-$1189
    2014 i5/2.6/8/256 13 inch new-$1499
    Difference of $310

    15 inch base models
    2013 i7/2.0/8/256 15 inch refurbished-$1529
    2014 i7/2.2/16/256 15 inch new-$1999
    Difference of $470

Significant savings on all models. The best deal is clearly the mid tiered 2013 refurb. Same ram, same storage, $310 savings.

Wait until 2016 to get the latest model.

Use pen and paper until then.

Unless Apple intends to reinvent the laptop, any awesome new features are likely to be software related. And that means you'll get it even with an older model.

For the love of God, just buy it if you need a laptop. The current rMBP is a relatively mature product with a few niggles here and there i.e the screen, but other wise its a great laptop.

If you don't need a laptop, go use the school computers or something.

Buy now, the delay in Broadwell means you'll be waiting until 2015.

Wait until :apple: brings out their last and final, ultimate and best product. :D

What is it with all those"shall I wait" threads?
What are people waiting for? The computer revolution?
Broadwell is going to be another, a bit better and more energy efficient processor.
Same goes for the next one after broadwell. Need a computer? Buy one.

instead of waiting perhaps set time machine to the year 2076. You will need to raise credits so here's my suggestion. Bring a bottle of filtered water you can later use in trade. Don't let anyone see it until you'r at a bank in the private company of a human manager. They will give you enough credits for what you need + AppleCare. Kiniport to the Apple store and get the base Holocube Air.
When you get back to good old 2014 don't show or tell anyone about it. The good news now is that you'll never have to wait for an other computer again.

If you have trouble finding a proper time machine however, the latest MBP is a great choice!

Then you do not have a choice in the matter and must buy now. Otherwise, you can sit around until 2015 for the next chip in which case, that suggests you do not need a notebook soon, or really at all.
