Oh, big boy. What fun to repeat each others comments. Yes to each his own, fine. What I'm saying is regardless of how you cut it, the new designs are far superior to the old large bulbous design that just took up more space and did not add to productivity. The newer designs have been sleek and sophisticated, anyone can see that. The argument is about ergonomics as well as aesthetics, not your opinion. I like some of the older BMW's for certain reasons, I also like the newer ones. However the newer ones obviously blow the ones from 1970 away for various reasons and that's not up for debate really, it's just fact.

haha. I was only commenting on how using the older iMac was more, fun (for lack of a better description) than the two I've had since. Of course the guts are far superior in every way; it's been like six years. Yes, today's models are much more sleek as I'm sure they will be more so going forward but I wouldn't go so far as to say that older model was bulbous. While the volume of space the newer models occupy is less, the actual footprint on my desk is only marginally less.

All in all if they made BOTH designs with the same specs, I'd opt for the one that swivels.

Ergonomic? I'm not sitting on it :) But I'll give you the keyboard/mouse are more so now.

It would be awesome if the screen could tell the difference between my sleeping face (and ring an alarm to get me back to work) and my scared face (and call the cops because a mob enforcer is mashing my face into the screen).

I can't find any reference to that quote on the internet, aside from a couple of your posts here on MacRumors. I don't remember reading it in iWoz. Did you make it up?

Anyway, that's not the thing. The thing is, apart from anything else, it's grammatically incorrect. Should be boxes, not box's.

That was from Pirates of Silicon Valley :)

Lol, ok then. Lol, I'm sorry but that thing looked like the top of a little trash can. The swivel was OK I guess. To agree with you, in terms of space, no matter what the screens on it will take up some amount of room as we all long for a large screen.

I suppose you hate R2-D2 as well? haha, but agreed!

Return of the G4!

Hilarious! My mother walked up to my old iMac G4 one day when I told her to do something, and tried to use it as a touch screen. :p

If they return to that form factor, I'd buy one for every room. That is my favorite computer of all time - it was and is a positively beautiful design.

It seems to be the greatest solution to create a usable touch screen computer, the maneuverability of that screen is hands down the greatest. Go Jony, bring back the style! :D

Why is there this obsession with touch screens? In a handheld device (iPhone, iPad, etc), I understand - it makes perfect sense. On a desktop? Not so much. I prefer a degree of separation between my input and what is displayed on screen. Am I going to have to navigate using my finger and the screen and then move my arm back down to the keyboard to input characters? And please don't suggest that there will be virtual keyboards to replace external ones - virtual keyboards are utter-crap. The only way you could get me to use one is if it was full-sized and built into a table. I'm not reaching up to my screen to type in a web address - how awkward would THAT be?!

Just because they are touchscreens doesn't mean they'll rid off keyboard and mouse. Typing on a vertical screen is very damaging to your wrists.

Now imagine this. You have two screens, one on the left (or right) and one in front of you. The screen in front of you is on full screen watching video, playing fullscreen game, or just have things on it. On your right (or left) screen, you have some widgets one of them is a stock tracker, another is weather forecast, and then an RSS feed. Your tracker blinks or alerts you of something, you go up and touch the tracker, enlarge it for a better read, scroll through it without having to use the mouse/keyboard without really having to loose focus on your work.

One i was running dual monitors, and had the windows gadgets on one screen while I had a full screen game on. I thought if I move the mouse over and click on some stuff, the game wont minimize, but it did. One time i found myself reaching for the screen and doing imaginary touching gestures and was like *sigh* "If only"..

Some might argue exposè is what's it made for. but moving everything off screen or bringing hidden stuff ontop of a clutter is just more cluttering. Plus, it's easier and quicker to just look rather than waiting for animation to stop.

Hello,

I don't think it is a good idea to use a "shape" to identify or authenticate the user.
It would be very easy to make duplicates, maybe you only need cardboard or something similar and a photo of the original object to do this.

RFID is a better solution to this problem, depending on how it is designed this could work even without pulling the token out of the pocket and it can be made very secure using cryptography.
