    Hi,

Both my rMBP and iMac are both running the latest version of OS X.

I have an SSD connected to the iMac which is shared from the iMac, and accessed by the rMBP.

I'm trying to copy a 30 Gb virtual machine from the MBP to the iMac, but about half way through copying, either the MBP or iMac is dropping the network connection, and the copy is failing.

I've had problems between OS X and Windows, which I have managed to resolve by continuously pinging the Windows machine, but am I really expected to need to do this between two OS X computers?!

Why on earth is OS X dropping/closing an ACTIVE network connection in the first place?

Neither computer is sleeping, and neither computer is dropping its network connection.

These are the ping stats from the MBP to the iMac. Both are connected via 5 GHz WiFi.

The ping fro the iMac to the base station is normal, as is the ping from the MBP to a Windows desktop (.3 address above).

I put both systems onto 2.4 GHz wireless, and the problem has "gone away".

It would seem something related to AirDrop runs over/using 5 GHz WiFi as part of discovery, but that is not in use/active, and BT is disabled on the MBP. Strangely, the iMac when on 5 GHz doesn't exhibit the same problem (at the moment).
