My iBook G4 OS10.5.8 has an airport extreme card, and is receiving a neighbor's wireless network.
I want to share this signal with my existing wired ethernet network, with one older G4, running OS10.2.8, with no network card.

Is this possible? If so I will slog through the required setup.

Thanks in advance for your answers and/or workaround suggestions.

And do you have permission from your neighbor to use his wireless network? If you don't then you shouldn't be doing it.

We share the cost of the signal.

thanks for your concern, oldwiz. I dumped AT&T's DSL and arranged to share the cost with my neighbor's permission.

I realize this is a very basic question, but after several hours with the mac site I have clues but no answer. I realize it's very possible with an Extreme base station.

How about it?

G4 has no wireless card, but is networked via ethernet.

g4 is the dual processor model.

Your first option is just not logical but you can do it.

You will need a ethernet cable and plug it in to you iBook and you G5. On your iBook Go to System Preference> Sharing> Click on internet sharing. Have it set up to use the Wifi though the ethernet cable.

I don't know if this would work. I am running Lion on my Macbook right now. I never had OS X 10.5

If that does not work you are just going to have to purchase a Airport extreme. Get a refurbished on they are cheaper and are less likely to break because they are held to a hire standard then new products.

It's $30 off

Thanks Chrisg2014!

The missing piece of the puzzle, internet sharing. I am new to networking and appreciate your help. The two computers are already networked on a wired Ethernet. Sharing should get the signal out to the network.

As to not logical, can you describe a better way to spread this signal? We are working with a zero budget@!

Thought you should know the solution - internet sharing. Thanks for your help, O mighty wiz!

That's fine; I have a neighbor who does the same thing with the guy who lives next door; they split the cost of the internet connection.
