Alright guys, share a video or picture of your bags of dongles. Let see how you guys are using your new Macbooks.

This is iJustine's bag.

I was planning to do a before and after of my dongle bag from the 2012 to the 2016. I will post it up soon...but as a sneak peak it looks identical except for one small little addition....

I really do not get the dongle thing other than the SD card hub that is a requirement for pretty much anyone (the only really upsetting part of the port elimination).

USB-C/TB3 is a much more superior cable, and whatever you regularly use just replace the entire cable with a USB-C cable. It's relatively easy and not very expensive to just replace your USB 3 cable to USB 3 to C cables, etc.

Not really my cable/dongle bag, but this is the kit I've assembled for my nMBP. Some of it I already had, some I've bought just for the new machine. I have cables and adapters coming out my ears so adding a few more is no big thing.

Exactly....I did buy a HDMI dongle but I use that port at most once per year to show pictures to family at Xmas. However, recently can just stream to Apple TV so don't really need it. My only addition after switching all my cables was a small little USBA-USBC so I can always have something to put on the end of a thumb drive someone gives me.

Yep! I did end up buying some dongles before I realized what I was doing. Why am I adding clutter to my life when I can just replace the entire cable assembly. Most things are done wireless for sure! Airprint, stream to AppleTV etc.

I have the following dongles/adapters:

  • Apple multiport VGA adapter: I keep this one in my laptop bag as I often connect to projectors at work (and at least for now they're all VGA).
  • Apple multiport HDMI adapter: I leave it in my office in case I need it. Usually don't keep it with me.
  • Apple USB-C to USB adapter: tiny and almost weightless. Keep it in my laptop bag just in case.
  • Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter: Always stays at home connected to my Apple Thunderbolt Display.
  • Sandisk flash drive with retractable standard USB and USB-C connectors: 32GB. $17 on Amazon. Makes it simple to transfer from work PCs to my new MBP.

The only other things in my laptop bag are the MBP power supply & cable and a 1m USB-C to Lightning cable I can use for both my iPhone and iPad. This way when I travel I only need to bring one power supply.

My "bag of dongles"
Someone reviewed that hub on U tube and said while it color matches and sits flush against the laptop it tends to giggle loose because it's long and the connection is on one side the bottom part moves back and forth and can cause you to lose connection which could be disastrous.

I haven't had the same experience but I'm a pretty light user of peripherals so it won't be too overused. I can see how this might not be a great solution for a heavy user though.

I have all the Apple dongles (geesh, this word gives me the skeeves)

I actually like the Thunderbolt one. It's something (costs $$$ so it ought to be)

How's the quality on this one? I'm eyeing it for my 15" nMBP (when it eventually gets here) but wondering if it's worth the 45eur.

Do you have a link for that flash drive? $17 for USB C/A drive sounds pretty nice!
