How are you guys getting such good macros?
Practice. 3rd party apps can give you more control (like manual focus and exposure). My favourite right now is CameraPixels which includes focus stacking. In some situations a tripod helps.
ps. I am only a lurker in this thread.

Scary bug on my window pane! Anyone has any idea what it might be?

Roughly 1.5 cm in length. Shot on 13mm lens, zoomed to 26mm.(Auto switched from Wide lens to Ultra Wide Marco Mode)

Had the camera pressed up against the window pane.

Just to make sure I didn't end up being a one message wonder, just an update that I finally got my 13 Pro this week. Ordered it in October, uhh. ?

Just in case someone wonders whether this phone can take closeups of.... tortoises.

Relevant to oh so many, I'm sure... ??

This old man is a redfoot tortoise (geochelone carbonaria) in his forties, possibly early fifties. We got him in 1985. The thing is, redfoot tortoises are active, curious and constantly on the move - it's hard to snap a photo of them without the head going out of focus and turning into a blur in the end result. The only time when they're completely still is when they're sleeping! So point in case, while I understand this not everyone's cup of tea (not exactly a super cute puppy or a fluffly kitten), I appreciate this. ? This photo was taken while I was on my back on the sofa and he was cuddling up next to me, being very curious of the phone in his face. Lol :)

Looks like a 'stink bug'. Depending on the type, it could be a huge pest that should be squashed immediately.

Could be, unfortunately most of the pictures I see and from the top, all I have is the bottom of the bug, so no way to match and confirm.

I have the rule that if it's a stink bug, it's dead. If I can get to it. I was in rural Minnesota, and there was a notice to look out for these bugs, and had pictures of several, saying This bug is bad', and 'This bug is good', and they all looked the same, except for one had a bad tailor. They were the same shape, and could be mistaken for each other. Why one is better than the other made me wonder if it were because they clash with the surroundings. Good grief...

Kids were saying 'smash all of them'. Makes sense...

Agreed, looks like a stink bug to me too. I hate those things. In the spring they start emerging from random corners of my house, which sets me off on a murder spree

ME TOO! I usually find one or two in the plants in the house. We get Box Elder beetles too, and two varieties of ants. I swear we built on top of a gigantic ant mound. They are seasonal too.

But the stink bugs are numerous in the yard. The wife wants to 'nuke the yard' to kill the ants, and various beetles, but that literally does 'nuke' the yard, and kills darn near everything else. Diatomaceous powder does seem to work to keep them out of the house, but the ants don't seem to be effected at all by it.

I was told that all of them nest in the attic, and the walls. They overwinter in the heat trapped in the walls, and often come inside to feed. Spring time tends to draw them out, and then they lay their eggs in the walls, and later their offspring end up going out both ways. I was told if I really wanted to 'nuke them', I would strip all the siding off and replace the insulation, and also all the insulation in the attic. NOT CHEAP! WAY NOT CHEAP! Good luck with your struggles... (Smashing them isn't pleasant, for sure...)

Ah, you understand my struggles with these damn bugs. The "living in the walls" thing makes sense; good to know.

You're right about the smashing, it's definitely not pleasant. That said, the "murder spree" I mentioned earlier is a bit of an exaggeration; usually I'll go around the house, capture them alive using a cup with a lid (which is easy because they're super slow) and then dump the cup somewhere in the woods across the street. Presumably, they won't find their way back into my house (at least, I hope not). I do this not because I'm so concerned about the bugs' personal welfare; it's just easier than collecting/cleaning up smashed stinkbug corpses all over the house.

Why… do they like houses?

I tried to use a cordless vacuum on them, and it just ends up more effectively spreading the stench! OMG, just don't do it! It works on the other bugs and flying insects, far better than on those stink bugs.

Te 'business end' of a dog. Always working, always sticking in places it senses it needs to be. I cold nose in the middle of the back when trying to sleep in is a shock. 'Dad, you awake?' I am now. Lets play! I am their most favorite toy. To be loved by a dog is an honor some owners never experience/deny, tragically...
Could not agree more. Beautifully said. I live my little guy, even if he snores like a chainsaw!

We ejected our Cocker after she developed a bad snoring problem. We suffered through the rabbit kicking, but drew the line at the drunken sailor with a chain saw impersonation. Oh, and she wasted no time, or evening, letting us know that she was really angry about it too. It took over a week for her to calm down, and forgive us. Poor thing. But we all slept better after that change. Hah!
