I am setting up a newly acquired iMac. I've created a user account for myself, and my wife. I would like to use a shared Photos library. I moved the photos library from my account to the Shared folder, and set permissions for her account to have read/write access. I switched to her user account, and have tried to open. But i keep getting error. It asks if i want to "open other" and it sees the shared folder library.... but when i select it it just tells me there is "an error repairing permissions" for the library, and Photos app quits. Any help appreciated...

If you put the library in the Shared folder, you should not have needed to change any permissions at all. By default any account can access that folder with no permission changes.

I'm now wondering if in your effort to change permissions in that folder you someone messed up the existing permissions?

After putting the library in the Shared folder, the default settings for the second user were Read only. So she could read, but not write. So i assume this would have prevented her from adding any photos to the library, or editing any. So changing that to be Read/Write was a necessity. I can't imagine this would have/should have caused problems. It seems like maybe i'm missing something simple...

Are you sure you re looking at the folder at /Users/Shared? Here is the permissions in mine that is default. As you can see there, everyone has read write access. Try putting it back like mine.

That is the settings for the Shared folder. And mine shows the same settings as does yours. But every individual item that you put inside the shared folder can have individual permissions set on it (so that you can decide what things different users are allowed to view and/or edit). The individual item permissions override the Shared folder settings.
But i still can't access the photos library from her user account, even though both the Shared folder and the library file all have permissions set to read/write. Please... anyone have any suggestions?

Create a separate partition and put the photos library there (or on an external drive). I tried going the /Users/Shared route, but no matter how often I changed the permissions, they kept reverting back to read only for either my wife or I. In a separate partition the permissions seem to stick. You might also have to set the partition (or external drive) to ignore permissions.

Now if I could just figure out how we could both share an iCloud library between 2 iCloud accounts, we'd be all set...

Yea.... i'm thinking this is probably the only option. Question... does adding a SSD to an iMac require removing the HD or the Optical drive.... or is there an expansion slot in there that i can keep the HD and Optical and just add that...?
