I cannot imagine watching a show and having FaceTime on.

I am jot judging those who do, but for me it seems dry and also irritating.
Rather have the people over and spend some time together.

This feature is not something I am looking forward to. as much as continuity since I tend to use both iPad and Mac at the same time.
I'm also struggling to find a use case for this, and how this would go: you watch a movie while there's a little box on the screen showing your friend also watching that same content? maybe kids will like it :)

But I also think this would gain more traction if this were to be part of a streaming service app, instead of being system wide. Now, you need to both have compatible iOS/mac devices, the latest OS, a subscription to a streaming service that supports the feature, ... if it were part of the app both sides use, it would be easier to discover and use.

If you travel, using this with your SO is nice.
Or for the many couples that have long distance relationships it is also nice.
And as you say, kids.

It is not a mind blowing feature, or a game changing one, but for those that use it, I'm sure it will be very nice.

Was pretty bummed to see this didn't work on my Macbook Pro 2017. Was literally the only reason I upgraded to Monterey, then found out Shareplay wasn't compatible. That seems too soon to be cutting out fully functional devices? At the very least, audio sharing would have been sweet. Bitter taste
It seems that Airplay Receiving is only compatible with certain Macs (I don't have the option in the Settings-Sharing menu to tick Airplay to Mac), but SharePlay is fully capable on my MacBook Pro mid-2015 on Monterey 12.1 public beta.

It depends on someone's preference. I will not have any circles that will immediately make use of this feature for entertainment purposes, but definitely for business purposes (whiteboard apps, strategizing and even onboarding). It will also help with anyone that's not tech savvy when needing to show them how to do something on their phone or tablet with the 'Share Screen' functionality. It's definitely in early days with adoption, but I do imagine this slowly taking over as more and more apps entice users with shared experiences.

These use cases make sense indeed.
It’s just that at least in my domain of work - everyone has macs - people will still use Zoom

I realise I was talking about the wrong thing in my post. I confused this with Airplay to Mac, which was disappointing to find incompatible with my 2017 15” MBP

Long-distance relationships.
