my wife and i have separate accounts on the same Macbook. we both share the actual media/files no problem. the problem we're having is that the changes to the tags and album art is not shared. can we share that too?

i'm fairly sure the problem is that iTunes stores this information in our respective user folders like this:

//user1/music/iTunes/
/Album Artwork/
iTunes Library
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Music Library.xml
/iTunes Media/ (this folder is empty because we're sharing another folder)

so i guess my question is, can we share that part of the library too?

yeah, we're using the same folder /Users/Shared so I'm still not sure :(

here's what happened:

the album art was not showing up on a few albums.
went through and chose "Get Album Artwork" and manually updated others.
switch to the other account.
the same album art that didn't show on the other account is missing.

could the album art be getting saved in that /user1/music/iTunes//Album Artwork/? i looked in there, but it's mostly gibberish folder names as far as i could tell

It depends. If you manually add the artwork, it's stored in the mp3 file. If iTunes adds it, such as when you buy songs from the iTunes Store, it stores it in the artwork album in the iTunes Music Folder. I always prefer adding it manually, to get higher-quality artwork than iTunes downloads.

maybe that's what's going on. I just deleted both our libraries and started over. one of our accounts has and iTunes store account, the other doesn't. last time i added all the album art with the account, and this time i tried with the user that has no iTunes acct and it said it couldnt get the album art unless i get a store acct first.

i'll keep playing with it... thanks for your help!
