Sharing disk drives

Hi guys,

So my macbook's optical drive has died on me for the second time, and im out of warrenty and have no applecare. Is there a way I can utilise the "sharing disc drive" feature to play dvds and rip cds into itunes? i's be using a windows machine to supply the drive. the application you can currently get for windows only works for installing software, is there anything else out there that i could use?
