I have two Imac's and use wifi as a router to share Internet, files etc..
Why cannot I use the wifi to share a external drive ..and if so, how do
we connect.

I'm in the same boat,

I'd like to hook up my external 1 TB hardrive to my Linksys Wireless Router
and use the drive as a Network Attached Storage Device.
But can't seem to locate the harddrive on the network....

Enable File Sharing in your settings on one of the Macs, and add the external drive to the list of shared locations.

Hi! Thanks for this. I've done that. My files on internal drive work just fine sharing from iMac to Macbook. My hope was to share files on my external drive connected to iMac with the laptop but my external drive doesn't seem to show up. I've looked for it on desktop and within the home folder. Any ideas?

using 10.5.8
external drive is formatted as FAT32to share with PCs... could that be part of the problem?
