I got both computers connected to a router.

The PC has both a shared folder and shared HDD.

When I goto finder-->network nothing comes up.

I'm not sure how to do this. Any help?

You need to create new location and then join the workgroup. This is required in 10.5.1 and I'm not sure if it's fixed in 10.5.2. Anyway, here is the steps that should work for both versions:

1. Go to "Preferences/Network" and choose the Network card.
2. Create new location.
3. Click "Advance" and goto "WINS", then fill in the workgroup name; i.e. MSHOME.
4. Click Ok.
5. Make it manually assigned IP address.
6. Choose appropriate IP, DNS, Gateway.
7. Put in the Subnet Mask: 255.0.0.0 ** (Important)
8. Apply.

Effect should be instantaneously.

As a guideline, always make sure the workgroup in WINS tab is correct for the chosen location and Subnet Mask is 255.0.0.0.

thank you i'll try this after my busy week is over. oh i cant wait for this week to end.
ah
thanks again :)

What's your Mac OS version?

Let's verify your configurations. Please go to your PC and write back the following info:

1. Workgroup name.
2. IP address.
3. Subnet Mask.

Also, try to open "Applications/Utilities/Network Utility" from your mac and ping the IP address of your PC and verify you get reply.

Important: Make sure there is no firewall enabled in your PC.

Mate, i think you need to check the router configuration and test all the connections. if you are good at writing Java program , then start using a thread and check this out. Still you feel you are lost, let me know.
