bstpierre - as CEO, he was beholden to his company and shareholders. As president, he is supposed to work for us. It's like criminal defense attorneys starting off working for district attorneys. One is supposed to do the job they are given to the best of their abilities.

What shareholders? It's a family business.

...due to the country's large number of individuals with the required "vocational kind of skills."

Yeah, we have no workers here who can stand on assembly lines I guess... just like Nike, they can find no workers here who can make sneakers... they are so damn hard to make I guess.

The only thing I can get on board with Trump is this whole MADE IN USA thing. These companies should realize that maximizing profit at the expense of the country's workers is NOT patriotic. Apple would still make billions and billions making products here, just not as much as making them in China. Tim cares about his company more than his country, that is the problem.

Very few Americans WANT to do this job like the Chinese have done with previous iPhones. To minimise this entire problem into "Apple does it for the money" is shortsighted. The non degree and the high degree jobs will remain, all those in between degrees most Americans have will disappear...

If cook is going to build its new iPhone in the USA, as you so preciously seem to want, very few jobs will be needed, as everything will be automised in a brand new factory. iPhone prices will be the same, unemployment rate hasn't changed, as Americans don't want to do the non degree jobs and some engineer gets a large check, might be a European, Chinese, whatever...

Brother, I concur with you in many things, but what makes one think that it is only Tim who cares about his company (pocket) more than his country?

One thing I believe is that the Trump administration is up for a big surprise (or they are bluffing if they don't already know it): None of these companies or CEO's give a rotten crap about the US worker, but their bottom line: profits, profits at all costs.

If they cared, the mess we are in currently would have never happened in the first place. If/when the so called *Made in the USA* comes back, the companies that would do it are going to benefit from it in ways one could never imagined! Sadly, this is not going to be to the real benefit of most US workers.

They (US workers) don't want to do it for $7.00/hr. I agree.

That's not a problem. Every fortune CEO thinks the same way. Don't make it like Tim is more unpatriotic than the next CEO.

I'm not. He's one of the bunch. Truth is, US could say we'll lower the tax to less than 5% if you bring back all of your money from overseas. And you know what, Tim would say no thanks. Still not enough. So the part about Apple not wanting to pay 35% to repatriate money.... just a red herring. He wouldn't take 5%. Easier to just sell bonds and keep all the money overseas. Tsk Tsk.

The only industry that staunchly keeps products "Made in USA" is the firearms industry. Hopefully Tim Cook's social justice theme and Trump's push will change this for Apple.
