as this would be amazing, also I'm sure there could be design improvements over my simple attempt - even if there had to be a bevel around the element embedded in the screen it would be great - for older apps it could just go black or act like the backlighting feature on some tvs

I feel like this will somehow complicate coding graphics... the origin (0,0) on displays is always at the top or bottom left corner. Where should it be on an irregularly shaped display, particularly one without corners? In the exact center? Centered on a certain edge? Or would you just pretend that the display is still a rectangle and just have (0, 0) be off of the screen?

Absolutely true. Horror for the developers. And what if you choose one non-rectangular shape for say iWatch and then decide to switch to a different one in iWatch 7? All apps will break. Such screens won't be usable in the products where 3rd party apps are allowed.

Doesn't change the controls and discipline required to make products that are flexible enough for mass production and development. But it does open up possibilities for bezel free screens, and proprietary (i.e., cars) use.

Now this is slick, I would love to have two or three of these for multi-display setup. And if they curved them some it would be even better.

I really hope Apple would buy one of these struggling Japanese display powerhouses to bolster their display supply. That's a good way to go if they want to have reliable supply and to reduce reliance on Shamesung.

Soooo, iphone 7 will have no bezel? ;)

I never really understand the fascination with "no bezels". Your fingers will always be on the screen and it's annoying as f.

Free form :)

I like this.. I'm with others.. This IS invention ...

Try and do this Apple.

I could see an iPhone be like this someday... If Apple plays their cards right.

Now this is about the best display tech I have seen in a while. What I really like is the idea of the screen being used directly in conjunction with the hardware knob in that way. I can see where this type of interaction could be really handy in a lot of situations.

The only downside to the super thin bezel is that swipe gestures from the edges get much harder when you put a case on it.
